Neil Alexander is another of the Hearts players coming towards the end of his existing contract, so far a new deal hasn’t been signed but the veteran is expected to follow in the footsteps of others (who have already signed new deals) and commit his future to the club.

The former Rangers ‘keeper, who arrived from Crystal Palace in 2014, doubles up a playing role with a coaching role too with the 37-year-old expected to continue to do so beyond the end of the season and his present deal.

Robbie Neilson’s made it clear he wants him to stay, and continue to mentor the likes of Jack Hamilton who is seen as his long-term successor, with him his no.1 at the present time and likely to remain that way following for the foreseeable after some highly impressive shows for the Jambos since his arrival with him key to the progress the club have made.

The Head Coach has told the Edinburgh News he not only wants him to stay he doesn’t expect there to be ‘a problem’ with the agreement of a new deal.

‘I’ve spoken to Neilly and he knows the situation. He’s one that we’d like to keep next year. We’re in the process of getting things sorted and we know the situation so it won’t be a problem. Neil is the goalie coach and he’s the No.1 at the moment. I see him continuing here.

‘Whether he’ll be the No.1 or No.2, it’s up to him with his form but he’s been great for us so far. He’s really enjoying the coaching side of it and that will be his future here, eventually. At the moment, he’s still the No.1. We’ve got Jack Hamilton, who we hope can progress and take over from Neil in time. I’m pleased with the options we’ve got.’
