Champs League: Rangers V FBK Kaunas

There’s a possibility that one of Vladimir Romanov’s other teams will stand between Rangers and the first round proper of the coming season’s Champions League.

FBK Kaunas of Lithuania face the champions of Montenegro in their first qualifier, and the winner of that tie will go onto face Rangers in the next round to decide who gets to the group stages.

It will be interesting to see how Kaunas fare against Rangers if they do indeed manage to get through. So many of their players have either been loaned onto Hearts in the past or are being linked with future moves to Scotland, so we’ll get the opportunity to see if there are perhaps any stars in the making currently in their side.

And as one Jambo so bluntly stated on a messageboard I read this morning, anyone who wants to personally let Jankauskas know what they think of him may get this opportunity if they decide to buy a ticket for the tie!

Would be hilarious if Kaunas knocked them out.

Hilarious yes, but could have repercussions for Hearts. Kaunas could become a stick to beat Hearts with… especially if we don’t achieve the same results against Rangers.

What do you mean exactly? Roles reversed and we become their feeder?

  • StockportJambo says:

In a word, yes. It would certainly make Romanov think about his pyramid structure a bit more. There’s no rule that says we have to stay on top of the heap forever guaranteed. We could lose our best players to Kaunas with the promise of cheaper wages & CL football. Not a nice prospect.

    Very interesting point.
