Hearts manager Csaba Laszlo is still hoping that he can secure the services of a new striker before the January transfer window closes.

It’s been strongly suggested now that Csaba will have to sell a player before he can bring any more in, and it could well be that this will happen in what is likely to be a frantic last 48 hours of the transfer window as we enter this weekend.

Whether or not our manager will get his man though, is still very much up in the air – as we know there is much that can happen in a very short space of time when it gets to this time of year, so we just have to hope that we get a rub of the green here in terms of timing i.e. someone doesn’t nick Berra so late that Csaba has no time to subsequently tie up a deal elsewhere with some of the proceeds.

He said:

‘Last night I spoke with a striker, a very interesting guy. He must decide himself if he would like to come to the Scottish league but definitely we are trying. He is under contract with a European team at the moment.

‘We must wait to see what happens over the next few days. We have one or two options and I spoke with Anatoli and Mr Romanov about this. I told them my idea but I also told myself I have to concentrate on my job and the Hamilton game tomorrow.

‘Mr Romanov was very co-operative in this direction. To get a good striker it is not easy. You must always be careful with what type of player you can get. Heart of Midlothian, in the past, took a lot of quick decisions and with these we did not always have a lucky hand.

‘Now we must look to have quality and a lucky hand. Only one thing is sure: If somebody leaves we have more possibilities to bring someone in. A striker would give more competition in the team. With a player who is a real goalscorer we can achieve more.’

I can’t imagine there will be too many of us who will disagree with that…

I really hope we can get someone in, we need not only more competition for striking places, we need more quality.

Well if we do, it won’t be Porter. I love this quote – “You must always be careful with what type of player you can get. Heart of Midlothian, in the past, took a lot of quick decisions and with these we did not always have a lucky hand”. Csaba is a true master of the English euphemism !!!
