Hearts have agreed a deal with Conor Sammon, which will be ‘formerly signed’ this week once he returns from an end of season holiday.

The 29-year-old had been touted as a top targets of Robbie Neilson’s as he looks to increase the striking options at Hearts with Republic of Ireland international Sammon, formerly with Kilmarnock, Wigan and Derby, agreeing a three-year deal following his release by the Rams.

With Hearts’ season beginning early, due to Europa League qualification action, we need to register players for involvement in this by 20th June. Officially Sammon’s deal with Derby doesn’t expire until 30th June so an ‘early release’ from this contract was required.

The BBC reports this has been successfully negotiated.

If he can have the impact at Tynecastle he managed during his first spell in Scotland, when Kilmarnock signed him following impressive form in his homeland with Derry City, he should prove a good addition to the squad.

Abiola Dauda, the January replacement for Osman Sow when he left for Chinese club Henan Jianye, has now returned to parent club Vitesse Arnhem at the end of his loan spell so ultimately Sammon is the man who will look to fill the boots of Swedish striker Sow.
