Elliot Wants To Leave Hearts

Hearts’ much-criticised striker Calum Elliot has told the club that he wants to leave in the summer.

Elliot, 21, has probably been the one player to have suffered the most for Hearts’ desperately disappointing season, and at times has taken a barrage of abuse for a series of inept displays.

As ever, I lay the blame for much of Elliot’s treatment firmly at the door of the management team. He was a player who did appear to have some talent when he first broke into the side three years ago, but has simply not been in the right environment for a young player to successfully develop. It’s my view that the strikers at Hearts have suffered more than anyone else, as it’s only been in the last six months that you could honestly say that we’ve seen anything resembling a conventionally picked side which has the same striker or strikers playing every week. But even then, the vast majority of the time it’s been one man on their own up front, no matter the opposition, and when you’re a player like Elliot, who to be honest it’s doubtful if he truly is a striker anway, it’s really not doing him any favours whatsoever.

Having said all that though, the player hasn’t exactly helped himself either at times. His attitude has appeared to be all wrong and too often he’s looked disinterested when all the fans were looking for was at least some effort. As we all know this is not the best way to endear yourself to football fans, especially if you’re not doing the business in front of goal as a striker.

Would Elliot have ever been good enough for Hearts with proper guidance? I’m really not sure – I was never his biggest fan, but like I said above I do think he had good potential at one stage. Perhaps though, that potential was to be a decent player at the likes of Motherwell or Kilmarnock, not a Hearts side who has aspirations of playing European football every year. We’ll probably never know now though…..

The title should really read: “everyone wants Elliott to leave Hearts” Subtitled “please Vlad just let him leave!” I do have a point here. Basically I don;t think a young player who has been underperforming has the right to demand to be played. For example Ronaldo at Man U, if he were dropped tomorrow he could say play me or leave me… But Elliott really can’t demand these things. Frankly with the redundancies in at Gretna and the number of players who don’t have clubs he should count himself lucky he has a job and has been getting some time on the pitch.

Yeah fair comment, but I do think the guy has a right to be a bit frustrated.

There is no doubt he’s a victim of circumstance at Tynecastle up to a point. However, having seen his attitude I feel his situation is beyond repair. The home support are so frustrated with him that to get back on track at Tynie would take a dramatic turnaround from the lad. Good luck to him if he gets a move. I think he needs it.

  • Dalien says:

I actually heard a few days ago Dunfermline would like him, if he can get a move to someone like that then best of luck to him. I understand he must be frustrated but so are fans watching him turn up as a striker who doesn’t score goals.

…is he really best suited to play up front though? I’m not sure he is – certainly not as a lone striker anyway. The Pars would represent a decent move for him I think.

  • Dalien says:

Definitely. And that seems to be the problem, he isn’t gong to be a prolific goalscorer but he does work hard.

I share the view that striker is not his best position. He must have had decent ability as a 17 year old, but now he looks clumsy with a poor attitude. Is the timing of this more than co-incidence, after the rumour that Frail is leaving ? Frail has “mothered” him for so long, the boy probably can’t face a real manager coming in to give him a boot up the proverbial. Hopefully Frail will take him to Celtic (if thats where he’s going)

Now THAT I’d be happy about!

  • Stood Free says:

Is this the guy that was in that YouTube video? If so, no wonder everyone wants him to leave!

  • MrH says:

It was indeed, but believe me some of his performances have been more embarrassing!

just think he knocked back man utd youth team to stay with hearts, bonkers! if man utd go knocking- u get going, there reserve team/youth team players are on 5k to 10k per week, what did young calum get? gullane sands and a packet of cheesy wotsits, i would crawl thru broken glass just to stick match-sticks in one of sir alex’s poo’s

  • hoopymo says:

Well to be fair it takes baws to knock back man utd and to play for a place rather than a big wage packet

  • Specs Haver says:

Emm… if it helps, it was someone else who knocked back Man Utd. Thankfully Gary Glen DOES look like a footballer, whereas the thought of Calum attracting interest from anyone other than a dance instructor is beyond belief.

  • Dalien says:

Wow one of my sources paid off. Or of course the EEN read this forum and have now linked Elliott with the Pars.
