Falkirk 2-1 Hearts

Hearts’ 100% record in the SPL’s ‘top six’ came to a shuddering halt at Falkirk tonight, where John Hughes’ side ran out 2-1 winners.

Despite a bitterly disappointing season, some Hearts fans have been attempting to highlight what few positives there have been over the past few weeks, which have seen the club winning back-to-back home games against St Mirren and Inverness Caley Thistle. For example, a couple of the young players (Gary Glen and Jason Thomson) had come into the side and acquitted themselves reasonably well.

However tonight’s match, which was bizarrely screened live on TV, was another disappointment for the Jambos.

Tam Scobbie opened the scoring for Falkirk with a left-foot shot from close-range practically on the stroke of half-time after a fairly unremarkable first 45 minutes.

Then just seven minutes after the restart, the game was put out of Hearts’ reach when Carl Finnigan, who had scored in the same fixture earlier in the season, headed home the second.

Hearts did rally somewhat and got themselves back into things with just under a quarter of an hour remaining when Deividas Cesnauskas scored from a tight angle, but unfortunately this was as good as it got for the JTs.

So yet another disappointment for Hearts in a season full of them. I can’t imagine anyone will be looking into this result too much to be honest though, as this game was completely meaningless, just as the home victories over St Mirren and Inverness were.

However you still want to take as many points as possible, and losing at Falkirk again just further illustrates the problems that Hearts have.

Will anyone who has the power to change this sit up and take notice? Well…that’s the $64,000 question isn’t it?

This game plumbed new depths in woeful performances! No defence – Thomson looks out of his depth which speaks volumes of his ability (yes I know he’s a young lad and all that but if he can’t perform against bottom six …..), Goncalves still resembles a baby giraffe who jobbies himself if asked to anything other than take a shy or shield the ball out of play! No midfield – Larry is rapidly turning into a luxury player which is fine if the other 9 outfield players are of exceptional ability but ……, Eggert/Reuban not doing much at all, Miko out of sorts which is a shame as he’s found some form recently. No attack – speaks volumes when our main threat finishes when an 18 year old with 2 games under his belt limps off! Mole huffs and puffs and Elliot ……….. well he’s just Elliot isn’t he (came off the post for the second goal too!). I despair!

You sure you’re in the top six? 😉

Another insipid performance in a season riddled with them. Last night showed exactly why we are where we are in the league. No direction, no commitment, no clue. Simply dreadful.

No point in getting too upset about this particular game though guys is there? We knew what the problems were and winning these meaningless matches just papers over big cracks. It’s probably better for us overall if we lose them in embarrassing style like last night.

Glad to say I missed the whole thing, and didn’t even know the score until I heard it on the radio this morning. I’m heartened that, apparently, we pummellled the Falkirk goal incessantly, and tore them apart with slick passing – losing only as a result of their 2 breakaways. Roll on the Killie game, eh ?
