Hearts will open the new SPL season with a home match against Edinburgh rivals Hibs.

The fixtures were released this morning and this is the most notable of all the opening day matches. It’s the first time that the two sides have met in the first game for seven years, when they fought
out a goalless draw at Tynecastle. Obviously we’ll be hoping for a more positive match and result than the one we got that day though.

Once again though, we will sadly not have an Edinburgh derby at New Year. This is the fixture that all football fans in Edinburgh have missed for years and yet again they have been deprived of it in the forthcoming season. Curiously enough though, the Old Firm WILL have their derby then on the same day that Hearts travel to Tannadice and Hibs face Motherwell at Easter Road. Randomly drawn fixtures? Hmmm….!
