Hearts To Miss Out On Beattie?

It looks as though alleged Hearts transfer target Craig Beattie of Celtic will be heading south to join West Bromwich Albion.

Beattie was rumoured to be one of several Scottish signing targets handed to Vladimir Romanov by the current Hearts coaching set-up, but reports today are indicating that the Scotland international striker is now likely to end up at the Baggies, with the transfer fee being around the £1 million mark.

Beattie has looked a decent enough player when I’ve seen him, but I don’t have any real feeling of disappointment over this. He is still relatively unproven at any real level and for us to have paid in excess of £1 million for his services would have been a risk that perhaps we didn’t need to take. From what I’ve seen he is certainly no better than the likes of Bednar or Pospisil.

From a Scotland national team point of view though, I hope that Beattie does well at West Brom if that’s where he ends up. He’ll have a good manager there in Tony Mowbray, someone who has a good recent track record with bringing on young Scottish talent. So all the best to him.

Hearts are continuing to be linked with Tommy Miller of Sunderland, despite reported interest in the player from former European Champions Steaua Bucharest. We’ll obviously comment upon this if and when anything happens.
