Jambos To Witness Henry?

Hearts’ glamour pre-season friendly with Barcelona is getting closer and the illustrious Catalans look as though they could have yet another star on display at Murrayfield in July: Thierry Henry.

Henry is on the verge of a £16 million switch to Barca, who will see this as some consolation for surrendering their Spanish league title to Real Madrid last weekend.

The Frenchman has been linked to the Catalans for some time now and I don’t think it comes as a huge surprise that the move now looks like going ahead.

If it does indeed happen and Henry is in contention to play against Hearts at Murrayfield, he is bound to be a phenomenal draw. 23,000 tickets have already been snapped up for the match, but with more than a month to go before the game and with the added potential box-office attraction of Henry in the pipeline, I think we could be looking at a huge crowd for this match – possibly around 50,000 with the number of neutrals who are bound to be interested.

As far as Henry leaving Arsenal is concerned, I actually think it could well be an excellent move for all concerned. From what I’ve seen of Arsenal recently and having listened to a few season-ticket holders at the Emirates, it does seem like their team actually function better when Henry isn’t in the side. I know that sounds bizarre as he’s a phenomenally talented footballer, but when he plays they seem to be a bit more one-dimensional. When I say that I mean that everyone tends to look for him all the time instead of playing the fantastic passing game that they are capable of.

Perhaps if Arsenal use the £16 million or so to invest in a more direct type of striker i.e. an out-and-out centre forward in the style of Van Nistelrooy or Shearer, they could once again be a serious force to be reckoned with.

But as for Henry, I still can’t wait to see him at Murrayfield is his transfer goes through!

What is a concern though is that if / when Henry signs for Barca, the talk is that they will sell Ronaldinho as a result. Henry is a good striker on his day, but I know which I’d far rather see play live… :-/

Goofle – A rather offensive and unnecessary post. The editor of this site is always fair. I happened to see Henry live last year against Hamburg. He was very arrogant, and a passenger. He was more interested in telling the centre half “who do you think you’re touching”, than winning the game. As with MrH, that doesn’t mean I don’t think he’s a fantastic player, of course he is. Injuries troubled him last season, but sometimes you need to move on to regain your appetite. Goofle by name, Goofle by nature perhaps…..

Henry is outstanding he just made himself look unloyal by vowing his future to the club shortly before leaving. I wouldnt of sold him for 16 mil. Its a very sad day for the gooners

I’ve no idea what the Goofle post is all about to be honest. I would normally delete meaningless pesh like that but we’ll give him the chance to respond and see what he’s on about…PS I saw Ronaldinho recently and he’s actually not too dissimilar to Henry in that he tends to hug the left touchline for long spells not doing a lot, then he’ll do something amazing every so often. Do agree with the arrogance comment though – shame he’s gone that way.
