Kaunas Goal Machine To Hearts?

As talk of a clearout of the Lithuanian contingent at Tynecastle gathers momentum, it appears that a new one, Ricardas Beniusis, could be moving the other way and joining Hearts in time for the new
season.

Beniusis is a centre-forward and has an impressive goalscoring record for FBK Kaunas, with 54 goals from 78 starts to his name. These are impressive stats in any league and a goalscoring forward is what Hearts are crying out for, so this guy could potentially fit the bill. He also has 18 caps for his country.

Apparently Beniusis is seen by Vladimir Romanov as a replacement for Edgaras Jankauskas, but perhaps this only means that in terms of Romanov having a new favourite player, rather than him being a comparable player to Jankauskas, who was a fine football player when he could be bothered, but was never a prolific goalscorer.

Either way, this could potentially be a decent signing.

Definitely this guy worth a shout. I have to believe that with all the dross that comes over there’s bound to be at least one diamond in the rough per season. Last season was Velicka and Zaliukas, next season could be this guy. We’ll see.

You know, I still don’t see what all the fuss is with Zaliukas. Capable enough player at the back, but then so are many others in the SPL. He’s average at best in my view.

“Unspectacular” I’d call him… but he goes about his business well in defence. I know what you mean though – I think he’s a bit overrated because we tend not to rate him against other defenders in the SPL, but rather against some of the woeful players we’ve seen from Kaunas in the past couple of years. On that basis, he’s decent.

Yeah, but anyone trying to say he’s better than Webster can ram it!

    At least he isn’t Judas!
