Mole Off To The Pars

Hearts’ goal machine striker (!) Jamie Mole is going out on loan to Dunfermline for the remainder of this season.

Mole started the season reasonably well after a long time away from the first team, but eventually became a target for the Tynecastle ‘boo-boys’ after struggling to make his mark in the lone striker role being deployed by Csaba Laszlo.

However the manager afforded Mole considerably more patience than those in the stands, and he continued to persist with him in attack despite a distinct lack of any obvious goal threat for quite a few months.

Eventually though, Csaba has had to look elsewhere to try and solve his striking problems, and recently Mole has been out of favour in terms of starting matches, and has only had a few minutes here and there lately coming on as a substitute.

This move to the Pars therefore makes sense for Mole, who is definitely a player who, like Calum Elliot, could do well at a club in the First Division. He will also have the chance to gain some much-needed confidence too in his attempts to get back into favour at Tynecastle, and he does have time on his side to do that given that he’s still only 20 years of age.

To be perfectly honest although Mole got a lot of stick from the Hearts support at times this season, I think there’s a pretty strong argument to say that the finger should really have been pointed more at Csaba than our young forward here. I really don’t think that Mole is suited to playing on his own in attack and continuing to throw him in when he clearly wasn’t doing it was unfair in my opinion – very much like the way that Mikoliunas and to a lesser extent Elliot were managed in the previous two seasons.

Mole himself had some understandably positive comments on his move, which I suppose he really had to didn’t he?! He told the HMFC website:

‘While it always my intention to demonstrate my ability at Hearts, I believe that the experience of more regular first team football in Scotland will be beneficial for me.

‘I have watched other players such as Jamie, Robbie and Calum benefit from loan spells and believe it can help my career development at Hearts. I am determined to be successful with Hearts but for the rest of this season I will be concentrating on playing my part in helping Dunfermline’s push towards the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.’

Good luck to Jamie and also the Pars in their bid for promotion this season.

Thousands upon thousands of kids up and down the country try their damnedest to make their way in football – dreaming of being a great player, scoring the winning goal in the cup final etc. I went to school with so many guys like that ? for a while I might have been one of them myself. [It would help my argument at this point to say that none of them made it but, as it goes, one of them went on to be one of the most famous Hearts? players of all time.] Anyway the point is that at a stage way below top professional level, 99 per cent of young aspiring football stars realise (or have it made painfully clear to them) that they don?t have the talent for anything like the top flight (or the SPL for that matter). I?m afraid to say that somehow at least a couple of these guys have actually made it all the way to the Hearts? first team without the self-realisation or the (cruel to be kind) tap on the shoulder from a well meaning coach to tell them that they are just not good enough. I wish Jamie Mole all the best.

Good luck Jamie. Did anyone notice the tiny byline about rangers being 25 million into their overdraft and also further loans sitting on top of that. How come their financial situation isn’t written about as much as hearts? Okay their income is greater but so are their outgoings.
