Pressure on Csaba as Hearts lose to’Well

It seems that Hearts reverted to a “Falkirk” performance against Motherwell, despite the confidence boost of beating Celtic in midweek. With Michael Stewart and Suso Santana, the team seem to have created nothing in the first half – and it was only in the final 20 minutes that Motherwell keeper Ruddy had to make any saves.

Hearts dismal day was compounded when Eggert Jonsson was sent off, and Christian Nade was stretchered off – making him doubtful for the Hibs game next week. With Zaliukas, Santana and Elliot out for several more weeks – and question marks over the fitness of Stewart, Kingston and Nade – Hearts now have severe problems in the coming weeks as they attempt to improve their worsening league position.

Following the game, manager Csaba Laszlo showed a mix of realism and bewilderment, saying – “You think a win at Celtic Park would give a team confidence, but some of the performances this afternoon wouldn`t win any game in the SPL. We have to be realistic – there is a big difference between what we wish could happen and what is actually happening.”

The ridiculous comments attributed to Vladimir Romanov after his meeting with the team this week – where he implied that his dressing room talk had laid the foundation for the win at Parkhead and had removed a “virus” from the team – now have a hollow ring to them. Instead, Csaba`s comment about welcoming THREE sporting directors (due to the amount of work he now has) seem more realistic.

Despite losing Karipidis, Aguiar and Neilson in the summer, I didn`t expect the impact on team performances to be as bad as it has turned out to be. In the circumstances, perhaps the best we can hope for is that Romanov appoints a Football Director – and then agrees to allow a couple of experienced attacking players to be purchased in January. The central defensive situation is an odd one. Csaba clearly rates Bouzid ahead of Kucharski – leaving many fans wondering just how bad the Pole is, since Bouzid`s positioning and reading of the game seem very poor at times.

Mind you, a more likely scenario is that the first job for a new Football Director will be to make a decision on which of Driver or Wallace can be sold in January. Tough times ahead, folks.

Tough times indeed, but this is not a particularly surprising result. We always tend to struggle at Motherwell and we’re not playing well – this coupled with the fact we were missing key players was always going to result in a tough afternoon. Still think we’ll win the derby for some reason….

They’ve drawn with Celtic and Rangers at home and beat Dundee Utd. They are a good team and deserved to beat us. I was at the game and heard some of the fans, one in particular, actually booing Gary Glen when he first came on and passed the ball back to Motherwell from a drop ball! This is just frustration I know but we’re not doing ourselves any favours. I’m quickly losing patience with Csaba. Again a 451 formation with Obua and Nade both of them are useless. He chooses this team and does not make the correct decision with substitutes and starting 11. I think he may be shown the door very soon and can’t see him at Hearts past January and to be honest I’m not too bothered either. Hibs next week I want to win I do but I fear the worst.

I agree with you Specs, the best scenario is that a Football Director comes in and convinces the Mad One that we need some decent attacking players in January. But like you I doubt that that this will be his intended role.

Difficult to see where this all ends, gents….not looking good for Csaba at the moment, but things can change very quickly, particularly when results go a particular way in a derby match….

The cup shock in midweek gave Hearts a false sense of belief. Celtic losing to Hearts was in the same category as losing to Clude in the Scottish Cup three or four seasons back. Like losing the League Cup Final to Falkirk. Hearts stole a game on Wednesday when franlky they were so far behind Celtic it was scary. Shock results will happen when the provincial clubs like Clyde, East Fife and Hearts will beat top opposition from time to time. But these clubs shouldn’t then get carried away thinking they are suddenly a good team. This is exactly what happened yesterday. You went to Motherwell thinking you were now a good team and received a resounding thrashing.

    pint of bitter, weetim?

No thanks. Noyt necessary. I don’t drink. besides, I like the fact that you nrever questioned what I said. I think you must agree. I don’t mind losing to provincial clubs like Hearts now and again. After all, the league is what is all about and you are never likely to win that are you?

Small issue with your comment WeeTim – only one of the 3 teams you mention are actually a “provincial team”… and its not Hearts. Who knows that the players think, but I’d bet that there aren’t many fans who believe we’re a good team – even after the Celtic win.

Specs i would say the potential is definetly there to be a good team,if the club gets it house in order some good players there & large fan base.

  • MrH says:

Hearts and Hibs are the only non-provincial teams in Scotland…..
