Preston Positives For Neilson

Head coach Robbie Neilson has said there were plenty of positives he could take from our one nil pre season friendly loss to Preston the other day.

A goal from Joe Garner for our English Championship hosts gave them the win on the day, but with the goal coming from a misplaced clearance by goalkeeper Neil Alexander – the remainder of the game was largely level and we more than matched them and that was the great positive for the gaffer as he spoke to the Official Site.

‘We try to pass the ball out from the back so we have to accept that mistakes such as the one which lead to the goal will sometimes happen. All in all, however, it was a great workout for and I thought we played really well. We’ve still got a few players to come back in and it’s all about building towards the St Johnstone game.’

Neilson was also pleased to see us admirably battle against a different type of playing side because of their more physical nature and whilst that may have taken us a bit by surprise given the more competitive edge to it, he felt we coped well and again it would serve us well for our Premiership return this year.

‘Preston are a good side, they’ve been down in League One and now find themselves in the Championship, so they’re a very physical side. I think the physicality surprised a few of our players as it’s a very different down here compared to up in Scotland. But overall it was a great experience for us.’

With Soufian El Hassnaoui pulled up in the dying minutes of the game with an apparent knee injury, the gaffer also confirmed that full scans were still to be done in the coming days and then we will know the severity of it – but hopefully it’s nothing too serious.

He was also bouyed by knowing that we can welcome back several players ahead of the game against Everton.

‘Ozturk, Gomis and Buaben will definitely be back in, possibly Juanma as well but we’ll have to see.’
