Hearts returned to the Scottish Premiership on Sunday lunchtime with St Johnstone’s coming to Tynecastle with this game ending in remarkable fashion with the Jambos edging out the visitors in a seven-goal thriller.

An incredible return to the topflight, if this is a sign of things to come with Hearts it’ll be another amazing season, saw Hearts see of St Johnstone four-three.

Hearts 4 St Johnstone 3 – Highlights

The return to the SPL wasn’t the only change for Hearts on Sunday with Head Coach Neilson giving summer signings Rossi, Augustyn and Juanma competitive debuts for the Jambos with Buaben back from injury.

An early lead went Hearts’ way when Juanma made the most of a McKay slip to run through and finish past Mannus with just three-minutes played.

St Johnstone pressed for an equaliser and would have had this before half time if Nicholson hadn’t been in the right place to clear Sutton’s header, which had beaten Alexander, off the line to keep it at one-nil at he interval.

Five minutes into the second half the chance to double the lead came when Nicholson was brought down. Sow stepped up but saw his effort saved by Mannus, however Walker followed up to score the rebound.

A Shaughnessy throw in, which caused problems for the Jambos throughout, resulted in Lappin getting one back for St Johnstone before Paterson combined with Walker to restore the two-goal cushion for Hearts.

When Nicholson missed a great chance to confirm the win two-goals in three-minutes from the Saints, a Sutton header and Cummins effort – with Shaughnessy involved in both once again – looked like it would prove costly as St Johnstone made it three-three.

There wasn’t any mistake from Nicholson next time though! Minutes after the Saints got back on even terms, what they would have expected to end with a point gained at this stage, Nicholson beat Mannus to ensure the Jambos started with all three-points and a four-three win.
