Previously Genero Zeefuik, who might have expressed an interest in staying, wasn’t expected to stay with Hearts beyond his loan spell, which was a highly successful four-month spell. The chances are this will still be the case but for the first time he has openly expressed an interest in staying.

The Herald quotes him as saying that he hopes to come back to Tynecastle next season but it depends on what his parent club Groningen have planned for him.

‘My career is now moving again and it feels great. If I go back to Groningen I don’t know what will happen to me, I don’t know what they want for me. I hope I can come back.

‘They want to sell me so we will see where I am going to play. I did a good job here so maybe it’s possible I can play here next season.’

In his four-month loan spell, which saw him play 15-matches, he scored an impressive 12-goals so you wonder, with us also stepping up, what he could do over the course of a full season?

Whatever happens he enjoyed his time with us, as he did in Scotland, with this move working well for him.

‘The people at Hearts have been very good to me and the club has helped me get my confidence back. My half-season here has been very successful and I am very happy to have had this opportunity.

‘I came to Scotland because I needed to play. I was not playing at Groningen and it was a very difficult situation, so this move has made me happy. I have scored goals and enjoyed my time here.’

I don’t think that anyone wouldn’t want him back next season, and it’s fairly clear that he wants to come back but the problem is his club are thought to be asking a £300,000 fee for the 24-year-old so that’s a major stumbling block isn’t it!
