Aston Villa ‘Paper Talk’ Dismissed

Robbie Neilson’s name, albeit nothing more than ‘paper talk’ as he puts it, merely being linked with a club like Aston Villa is testament to the fine job he’s doing at Hearts isn’t it?

A vacancy has opened up at Aston Villa with Tim Sherwood sacked as Villa boss last weekend and this has seen some claims made on Sky Sports that Neilson could be a serious candidate to replace him at Villa Park?

The ‘bookies’ made him one of the favourites, even if he was a fifth or sixth placed ‘outsider’ but Neilson himself has shrugging this off with him only focused on continuing the job he’s started at Tynecastle.

Which has been a fine job so far with him leading Hearts to the Scottish Championship title at a canter, miles ahead of Rangers, with the Jambos sitting third in the Premiership and in with a chance of possibly being second at the close of play today.

The Head Coach isn’t reading too much into this, not that he wants it anyway.

‘It’s just paper talk. These things happen when people move on from different clubs, there is always talk. But my sole focus is here at Hearts. I’ve still got a huge job to do and it’s something I am really enjoying.

‘It’s more testament to the players and the club, to be honest, than myself.

‘The club has come on so much in the last 18 months and it’s continuing to grow but we still have a long way to go and I want to be part of it.’

Very modest in his thoughts as to the job he’s done at the club isn’t he!

Neilson, thankfully, isn’t likely to be lured away to Aston Villa at this stage, with them set to target others ahead of him as it happens, however you now start to fear it could only be a matter of time before a club does come calling for him.

Then again that doesn’t mean he’ll take up the offer does it!
