Barry Robson Linked To Hearts

I’ve heard quite a few rumours that Hearts are trying to put a deal together to sign Barry Robson from Dundee United.

As we all know there are an awful lot of these rumours flying around just now and the vast majority of them will be absolute nonsense, but this one would make a bit more sense than most in my view.

Robson is a player that I’ve always been impressed with in games against United. He’s a tenacious and skilful winger who has a decent eye for goal. He also has a bit of dig, something that Hearts are desperately lacking in the midfield area.

It’s been suggested that Robbie Neilson could be part of the deal to bring Robson to Tynecastle and again, this would make sense as United manager Craig Levein is a known admirer of the Hearts full back. And does it really look likely that Robbie will be back in the first team next season? I’d doubt it, considering he couldn’t get a game ahead of players like Ibrahim Tall and Hristos Karipidis, neither of whom are what you would call natural right backs.

This could quite easily be another crock of the proverbial, but if it does happen then I don’t think it would be a bad move for Hearts. In fact for all concerned it could be a very good piece of business. We’ll see what happens.

I think one way or another, Robbie will be going. Which is a shame, as apart from really one magnificent tackle, he was our weakest link in 2005/06. Nevertheless, he’s a hell of a lot better than those currently in that position – but with Mendy coming in I fear that will signal the end of his Hearts career. All Romanov is looking for now is a way to offload him IMO – and this may turn out to be the way.

There would be worse ways to offload him I suppose. He was always pretty average but as you say, no worse than what’s been playing ahead of him. Personally I’d have Maybury back in a second to replace him.
