Could Hearts Tempt Premiership Boss?

Most people are expecting Hearts to appoint a new management team in the summer and I’m wondering if there’s any chance they might end up tempting those who have recently vacated their jobs with English Premiership sides.

The latest rumour doing the rounds is that Hearts could be set to announce the new men next week, but there’s no clear indication of their identities….and of course, it’s all just rumour at the moment anyway. But assuming that we will be hiring some new blood, is it realistic to think we may be targetting someone like Neil Warnock, or Chris Coleman perhaps?

I think the answer to that question would definitely have been ‘yes’ a couple of years ago. George Burley was probably a similar type of manager in terms of his standing in the game and the sort of clubs he’d managed.

But since then our esteemed owner Mr Romanov’s view on the way our club should be managed would appear to have shifted away from the British coach route and despite never getting near the heights that the team hit under Burley, most Hearts fans are not optimistic that our new management team will be from these shores. But you never know. Romanov has rarely been the predictable type has he?

The other question of course, is would the Hearts job still be likely to tempt a manager of this sort of standing in the game? It might sound ludicrous, but despite the nonsense that’s gone on over the past two years at the club, I actually still think that it would. Let’s face it, outwith two Scottish Cups in 40 years, Hearts have been gross under-achievers for a very long time. They are playing in a league where the competition for the title is as low as it has been in a long time and despite his apparent eccentricities, they have an owner in Romanov who does have the financial clout to allow a coach to make them league champions. Whether he will do that is another question, but the potential is most definitely there.

It does look as though we’ll find out the answers to some of these questions in the next few weeks. I’m certainly not counting on a top notch managerial appointment after witnessing the nonsense of Rix, Valdas, etc recently, but like most fans, I continue to live in hope.

So if Jose Mourinho is in fact leaving Chelsea, I’d personally be happy for us to take him……!

I don’t think Valdas was actually a bad manager, after all he DID win the Scottish Cup, something the Hibbies will probably never repeat!

  • MrH says:

He did, but with the players at his disposal and the draw we had last year, I still don’t consider that a particularly great achievement, even if the fans did!

I actually don’t think there’s anything wrong with Anatoli Korobochka and Steven Frail. Their record since they took charge has been superb, especially when you consider the fractured state of the squad at the time. They should be given a chance next season.

  • MrH says:

I think they’ll stay on, but it does look as though new people will be coming in to join them.

can you see any of the managers you mention wanting to go there to work under your chairman ?? I personally do not as you are labelled a circus down here because of one reason … him !

  • MrH says:

Well that’s the big question now isn’t it? As I said in the article, he was able to tempt Burley before any of his nonsense started, but whether he could get someone similar now is doubtful.

Warnock and Romanov…like to two pieces of Uranium 235 on contact.
You dont’ want him, he really is a loose cannon and prize dick.

  • MrH says:

If he gets results though that would do me. I’m hearing more and more rumours that it could Nevio Scala though…but we’ve heard that before!

  • Genghis says:

My money’s on a manager that not fluent in English. No manager with any credibility would want to work under Romanov. If you get somebody that we’ve heard off I’d be very surprised.

  • MrH says:

You might be very surprised then…….

  • Genghis says:

…. I’ll hold off being surprised until I see who it is

  • Craig Cain says:

The BBC and Sky are both reporting that Warnock is openly expressing an interest in the job…what a cocktail

  • MrH says:

I’d be delighted if it happened but I don’t think it will. The rumours at the moment are touting either Jim Jefferies or Nevio Scala…..
