Csaba: Romanov Must Get Rid Of ‘Lazy’ Players

There were some pretty good comments from Csaba Laszlo in the Scotsman today talking about some of the laziness that’s existed in the Tynecastle dressing room in recent times.

I’m quite sure that most people will have a good idea of which players Csaba is referring to in some of his quotes below, and frankly this sort of public rant about it is long overdue. Here were some of his comments:

‘I have one big problem here. I have come to a club where I have met a lot of nice people. Now I would like to change this. I want to see a lot of hungry people. I want people who are hungry for success.

‘I am a very bad guy and a lot of people don’t accept me but I want to work for success and I want success. All my body language is about trying to gain success. If someone sees me on the training pitch, they will see a guy in the front who wants to be followed.

‘A lot of people say bad things about Mr Romanov but I will tell you something about him. He has made a big mistake and the mistake is he has given these people a very nice life. And a lot of these people – not all – are lazy. They are lazy. I have said to Mr Romanov we must change this. We must be more professional. This isn’t negative but in professional football if you have players who are successful they deserve to earn very good money. Players at clubs like Bayern Munich, Celtic and Rangers deserve money.

‘But if you don’t have success you can’t cry out all of the time for money. A lot of people say bad things about Mr Romanov but maybe the biggest mistake he has made is putting a lot of money in the club and he hasn’t got anything back.

‘He must change his attitude and we must look right now at which characters deserve the money. We can give players a good salary but for the bonuses and success they must work very hard. This is a professional way of working and we must take this direction for everyone at the club. I know it’s the same for me, if we don’t have success I know what happens – I must look for a new job.

‘The players need to be the same. If they don’t do a good job and they don’t like working we have to find a way to change it. Then if we have success we can all celebrate together.’

Laszlo’s comments here are spot on – complacency and comfort zones have contributed in no small way to Hearts’ demise in the last two seasons, coupled with the lack of leadership that we all know about of course. The latter would appear to be in slightly better hands now, and if Romanov and Laszlo can ‘work together’ to weed out those who are not prepared to work for their money, it would be nice to think that we could once again be supporting a Hearts team of serious grafters – players that the fans can once again relate to in other words.

“I am a very bad guy”. Love it! So nicknames for the boss like “Shaggy” are out of the question then, eh? Romanov comes from the same kind of environment that Laszlo does, and he has also had to work very hard for his money… so you would hope they would both be of the same mind. Watching this one with great interest…

he certainly talks the talk ,, but can he walk the walk ??? like SJ I,ll also look on with interest but I dont think he will take any crap ,, regardless of source …… good luck to him …

Great stuff – sounds like the “bad guy” means business !!! I agree with your broad point (SJ) about Romanov coming from a similar background in the East – however he has become rich to the point where arrogance and wealth perhaps cloud his sense of reality. He no longer works “on the ground” – its now all about wheeler dealing, and getting his “people” to arrange things, and retaining control of things and people. Csaba on the other hand remains a tracksuit football manager, and seems to know what its all about. Time will tell if the relationship will work – lets just pray that it does.

I like the cut of his jib!! It’ll be interesting to see how Romanov reacts to being told he’s made mistakes.

Interesting times ahead….if this guy seriously IS a bad guy sort, then I reckon we’ll love him! Pasquale Bruno as number 2 anyone?!

  • Dalien says:

Bruno would be a great number 2 to him. I reckon you should let Tynie know of this idea MrH, I am being serious here. Bruno would soon get the work shy bandits working or walking. And let’s face it if a player would rather walk out than work Hearts don’t need him. I reckon we should start a campaign for Bruno.

  • StockportJambo says:

Dunno about the Bruno idea… I think for the happy discipline idea to work, you need a kind of good-cop-bad-cop partnership. Csaba is a very bad guy, so IMO we need someone who the players can be more friendly with. Like a Steve McLaren at Man Utd, or Billy Brown at Killie.

  • MrH says:

Aye I was just joking a bit there with that suggestion, but we could do with someone like Bruno on the park rather than managing in my view. I’d support any campaign to bring back Brellier to take on that role……….

  • Dalien says:

Brellier being brought back would be a good campaign to start too.
