Elliot To Destroy Rangers?!

It’s clearly the silly season at Tynecastle just now, and I’m not just talking about my forlorn attempts to bring some comedy to our match reports these days!

I am of course, referring to the seemingly endless stream of hilarious comments being made by some of those employed by our illustrious club to the press at the moment. I really thought that Stevie Frail had taken the lion’s share of the evidently potent brand of wacky baccy currently being consumed by the first team squad just now with his chat about Christophe Berra being in line for a Scotland call-up, but I have to stand corrected. Frail’s certainly up there, but I reckon his favourite player Callum Elliot takes the biscuit this week with his assertions that he’s about to shoot Hearts up the table in the coming weeks!

Perhaps the explanation for such a seemingly sweeping statement is simply that Hearts are up against Rangers on Wednesday, and everyone must be confident of getting on the scoresheet in that particular contest – even Elliot it would appear! But like Frail before him, once again these comments are putting unnecessary pressure on a player who can already do nothing right in the eyes of the critical Hearts support. Why add to it by coming out with stuff like this? Why not, to use one of those horrible footballing cliches, let him ‘do his talking on the park’?

I really do hope that Elliot (or any of the Hearts strikers for that matter) can hit form soon, as without Andrius Velicka we could seriously struggle to score goals between now and the end of the season. But he’s really not going to make life easier for himself by coming out with promises that he is by no means guaranteed to keep. It’s good if these guys are confident in their own abilities, but they’d be best to at least start walking the walk before telling everyone what they’re going to do.

I reckon if we give Elliott are really big gun he could in fact destroy Rangers. Of course he would probably miss the target quite a lot and possibly destroy a fair bit of Hearts of which there is little left to destroy these days…

They’ll get the obligatory penalty anyway.

  • MrH says:

…only if they need one TDBhoy! Or one of our players will be harshly sent off….

My money is on Barry Ferguson picking the ball up with his hands, running 50 yards towards goal and scoring, with the referee allowing the goal. Then when Romanov complains, he’ll be called ‘mad’ by the weegie media and fined by the SFA for bringing the game into disrepute.

    Good luck to him!

    Sounds about right Stockport Jambo…

Whatever happened to the old “mild” cliche quotes that players used to give the press – “Its how we perform on the day” , “Lets hope we can get a result”, “We’ll be giving it our best shot” etc etc. To be fair, any quote from a player can be made to look ridiculous in print, and coming up with a sensational headline above a “nothing” story is a speciality of our beloved press. Could we get Uri Geller to “will” young Calum to score a hat-trick on Wednesday … that ought to work, would it not ?

It’s just a shame that Hearts didn’t have someone at the club who could really handle the media….and I mean really handle them. Someone like the sort of personalities we discussed last week like Keegan, Atkinson, etc. These guys literally would say nothing but still have people thinking they were good value – we have no-one at our club who publicly appears to have any charisma.

It’s also a shame or is it a sham that we don’t have new manager yet… Mark my words Frail will get the job fulltime and at that point my brain will cease to recognise anything Tynecastle related. Okay it wont, I just wish I could ignore it all though. I laugh when I read the comments on the Evening Hibee where there are still Hearts fans who think things are okay and some even think we have imporved.

I do too but I can’t blame them for trying to remain optimistic. Let’s face it football can be a big part of people’s lives and if the team they support is struggling they’ll look for any little thing they can to cling to. As for Frail being the manager full time, I’ve been concerned about that possibility for some time….
