Gordon To Make Hearts Comeback?

Hearts could be about to recall Scotland ‘keeper Craig Gordon to their starting line-up for tomorrow’s Scottish Cup match at Dunfermline.

Gordon has been out of favour since the 2-1 home defeat by Celtic and has looked on as deputy Steve Banks has earned back-to-back shut-outs in his place.

It’s been well-publicised that Hearts were attempting to sell Gordon along with fellow Scot Paul Hartley before the transfer window shut, but unlike the Celtic-bound midfielder, Gordon remains a Hearts player for at least the remainder of this season.

Gordon has clearly been frustrated at the latest shenanigans at the club, as he confirmed in an interview with a local paper earlier in the week. He said:

‘The club said they were in the middle of negotiating my transfer and I’ve not heard anything since,’ he said.

‘I wasn’t aware of which club it was – I’m not aware of any interest from anybody.

‘I’m only open for suggestions if it is good for my career.

‘I’ve made my decisions so far for football reasons and I’m going to continue to do that. So I’m only going to leave here if it is right for me.’

Good for him I say. It’s refreshing to see a young footballer with a little bit of intelligence when it comes to getting the chance to move anywhere for big money. He’s clearly going to wait until the move is 100% right for him.

Despite Gordon’s troubles with Hearts, manager Ivanauskas was full of praise for him when he spoke to the Evening News yesterday, giving us further evidence that he was under orders not to play him in the last two matches.

Ivanauskas:

‘He is so experienced and has been so calm through all of this, even though his career is still young.

‘Craig is the best goalkeeper I have worked with in my managerial career.

‘A lot of players from last season have left the club and we need to find that team spirit from last season again.

‘Paul is gone, but Craig was a leader in the team last year so I am very happy he is still here to help with this.’

For goodness sake, would someone in the Hearts management get a grip and let the man in charge of team affairs do his job without interference?!
