Hats Off To The Irish!

Regardless of how things go for the Republic of Ireland over the next few years, you have to give their authorities immense credit for having the level of ambition required to go and appoint a man like Giovanni Trapattoni as their manager.

Talk about aiming high. This guy’s CV must be right up there with some of the very best in world football and although he is 68 years of age now, there is no reason why he can’t give the Irish something positive to shout about over the next few years. Certainly, his interviews today gave the impression that there’s still plenty of motivation there for this guy to succeed.

I think it’s great when you see one of the so-called lesser nations or clubs being bold like this and going for the very best that they can. It’s such a positive way of looking at things and even if 90% of the time they receive knock-backs, the door may open one day and on this occasion it certainly has for the Republic.

Good luck to them I say. It would be nice to think that our own club would display a similar attitude in their search for a manager, but that’s another discussion altogether…..!

I would agree. This is just the type of appointment that HMFC need. A manager who has operated at the highest level but is, to a certain extent, on his way down. Unlikely to get offered a job in one of the better leagues but we could offer a chance for a last hurrah and the opportunity to be a big fish in a small pond. He could be top dog when compared to Strachan and Smith who hardly set the heather alight down south.

    Exactly.

I’m delighted with the appointment of Trapattoni as our manager. I didn’t realise just how good his CV was until i read it for myself. Better than Capellos eh? I agree with INM, I don’t think Strachan or Smith are anything special, never have. I think when you see what MON is doing down in England, shows the quality of manager we lost.

  • MrH says:

Yeah but you got a good few years out of MON. The time was probably right for a change for both club and MON himself.
