Hearts Appoint New Assistant Manager

Hearts have appointed 50 year-old German Werner Burger as Csaba Laszlo’s new assistant manager.

Burger, who admittedly sounds more like something you’d order from a Bavarian restaurant than a football coach(!), is apparently a long-time colleague of Csaba, who studied with him for his football qualifications in Cologne a few years back. He has experience coaching in Switzerland with FX Kreuzlingen, Red Star Zurich and FC Schaffhausen, as well as a stint with the German Football Federation under his belt, where he coached players in the under-15 – under-19 age groups.

There doesn’t seem to be a great deal more information kicking around about this guy, but at least it sounds as though he has a reasonable footballing background. You’d also like to think that it was entirely Laszlo’s decision to bring him in, which you’d have to think he is given their previous connection. So for that reason alone this should hopefully be good news for Hearts.

All we need now are a few new players…….!

Like you say, there’s not much information kicking around about this guy (doesn’t even have a Wikipedia entry, a fact I think will soon change now that he’s working for one of Scotland’s top clubs ;0)) but one thing I did notice is that he’s comfortable taking a back seat. In other words, he takes orders well. Should fit right in!

A guy whose name sounds unnervingly like “Wanna Burger” who takes orders well? Are we sure this guy’s in the right job?!

I suspect we’ll need to watch Nade very closely when he’s around him, his Slim Fast Plan may go right out of the window…

I didn’t want to get any further involved in the spontaneous Old Firm debate on the other thread so adding my tuppence here- I think a manager that has good experience with youth coaching at a good level is a shrewd move here considering our squad.

Good point, YJ. No point in having promising Academy youngsters if the coaching to develop them isn’t up to scratch. Let’s hope the Csaba Burger team brings out the best in our young stars of the future.

this is a great sign for hearts imo, the fact the manager for once has been allowed to bring his own staff in shows romanov is probably serious about leaving the team alone and that can only be a good thing for hearts

  • StockportJambo says:

Well, Burley had his own staff in as well, so it’s probably too early to tell that quite yet for definite – but I know what you’re saying hoopymo and it certainly sounds promising.
