Hearts made it five SPL wins in a row this afternoon after a scrappy 2-1 victory over hapless Rangers at Tynecastle.

The home side were two goals up in the first half after two Bruno Aguiar free-kicks caused chaos in the Rangers penalty area, resulting in close range strikes from Marius Zaliukas and Larry Kingston. However Rangers clawed a goal back when the unfortunate Hristos Karipidis couldn’t prevent himself from bundling the ball into his own net shortly before half-time.

Thankfully though, Hearts were able to get through an ultra-scrappy second half and hold on for all three points, despite the ordering off of full-back Lee Wallace.

A real gritty performance from Hearts, I thought – reminiscent of how we used to approach games against the OF in years gone by. Berra and Zaliukas looked immense today, and Mr Kingston showed a few flashes of brilliance too while putting in a decent workrate. Its a joy to listen to Csaba most times …. but at times like this, its wonderful entertainment in itself !!! He seems to have got this bunch of players tuned in to a good spirit and discipline. Well done to Csaba and the players !!! Question – was Barry Ferguson playing today ?

  • R.K says:

SH, I think Ferguson is still out with an Injury as I haven’t seen him since last May and even then he was anonymous. Great win today. Although I hope you guys don’t win too many matches, otherwise we might actually have a challenge for our title. But 2nd place is now between yourselves and Dundee United.

It was a fab first half and a scrappy second. Kingston came back with the right attitude and we secured the win. Well done!

RK – I admire your words of encouragement and optimism regarding the battle for 2nd. However when it comes to the demise of Rangers to the point of not even challenging for 2nd ….. I’ll believe it when I see it !! Right now, I (and probably the other guys on here) are more than happy that Csaba has restored some football pride back into the club. At the start of the season, we’d probably all have been happy just to make the top 6, given the shambles of the last 2 seasons !!

Seven points behind Rangers, and only nine points ahead of the 6th placed team (okay, its only Hibs) – 2nd place isn’t really very realistic. If we’re only a point behind after Christmas I might start to believe you… but, like SH says, I’ll believe it when I see it. Great win for us today though… but we’ve got a lot of hard fixtures coming up, not least Celtic away in two weeks time. Top 6 is still the goal.

top6 is already in the bag IMO but second no chance i am afraid not cause rangers are good but because hearts just dnt have the squad
