Hearts Circus Still Functioning

It would appear that the Tynecastle circus is still in operation if the latest on the status of supposed new signing Fernando Screpis is anything to go by.

The Argentinian midfielder is currently with Lithuanian side FBK Kaunas, but after a trial with Hearts in the summer he signed a 3.5 year deal with Hearts which was due to
start on the 1st of January. This was to allow him to play with Kaunas until their Champions League campaign was finished.

However it is now January 24 and the player still appears to be no closer to moving to Edinburgh than he was in the summer, and is therefore having to seek legal advice to clarify his contract situation. Hearts have not been forthcoming with any details, and it could end up at the stage where Screpis has to take the club to FIFA to get the situation sorted out.

This is just typical of the clowns running our club isn’t it? Even if the guy isn’t any good and they no longer want him (which might be possible if it’s different people now making judgements on players) they can’t treat him like this. It’s yet another example of the board’s inexperience (and incompetence) in dealing with football affairs, and the more this sort of thing happens the more embarrassing it becomes for Hearts.

I hope, mainly for the player’s sake here, that this gets sorted out ASAP.

Just waiting for this guy and Maybury to be unveiled on 31 January as our new signings, with Frail given the manager’s job until the end of the season. I’ll start seriously worrying about relegation if that is the case 🙁

Kaunas are now top of the pyramid. They can qualify regularly for the Champions League – and Hearts can’t. It’s that simple.

Probably right SJ. By the way if Maybury is still the same player as he was when he left I’d take him back in a second. He’s as good a right back as we’ve had since Frail himself and as long as he was played in his correct position he’d be infinitely better than what’s there at the moment.

I did like Maybury but he’ll not do our disciplinary record any good! I know nothing about Screpis or how good he is – any info? It’s just a joke the way we treat some folk ….. I mean, how hard is it to find out if there’s a contract or not??!!

Just rumours I know but some sites are reporting that Hearts are interested in Polish international midfielder Kamil Kosowski and Finnish forward Juha Hakola. I know nothing of these guys and we will, of course, believe it when we see it.

  • MrH says:

Hmm Juha Hakola sounds a bit much like someone else we know for my liking! As for Maybury and the disciplinary record, we need hard players. Our indiscipline is not due to having physical players – it’s a combination of things stemming from a lack of leadership. Most of our bookings are for petulance – retaliating to opponents or poor decisions. Maybury certainly wouldn’t make anything worse on that score.

Fair point on the disciplinary side of things. I just remenber always getting a bit frustrated if Maybury lost a ball and went flying in. On the subject of petulance and backchat etc to refs – this must be the most frustrating thing for managers. I appreciate that players must get heated during a game and we all want passion and committment etc but if it were me I’d be fining players who pick up bookings for this type of thing. A bit simplistic perhaps.

  • imcd says:

Trouble with backchat is that it seems to depend very on the player giving it. No, I’m not just going on and on as usual about the CelticRangers bias thing – I’m thinking here about the Willie Millers, Richard Goughs and, to some extent, Pressleys of this world who seem(ed) to be allowed to make their point forcefully enough. Others, I’m afraid, go in the book or off the park.

  • MrH says:

Pressley to a huge extent I would say! I’ve never seen a Hearts player being able to ‘make’ as many decisions as he did. These guys are unique, and almost always tend to be captains due to their personalities. All of the guys mentioned above were captains, and for this reason alone that means they get more leeway to discuss the game with the officials. Some are better than others of course, but that is exactly the sort of player that Hearts need right now: a true leader, someone who can lean on an official without offending him. Berra isn’t experienced enough for that and none of the players at Hearts with experience have that sort of personality.
