Hearts crash to hefty defeat at Tannadice

So much for me predicting a close game in yesterday`s preview article !!! Judging from the radio commentary and report on the Hearts website, our heroes were well beaten by Dundee United today. In addition to the 3-0 scoreline, the sequence of red cards in this fixture continued as Eggert Jonnson received 2 yellows for wild tackles on Craig Conway, who was nominated as Man of the Match by the radio commentator.

It seems that Hearts did not manage a single serious attempt on the United goal. The team started with the “normal” formation, with Jamie Mole as sole striker. Only in the second half did Csaba Laszlo change the formation by introducing Nade and Tullberg (replacing Mole and Ksanavicius), but this seems to have done little to change the flow of the game.

With Mike Tullberg unlucky enough to be making his debut as a substitute when the team were 2-0 down, it`s not fair for fans to pass comment on his abilities yet.

This was a day when all 9 of the other 10 SPL teams managed to score at least 1 goal, a fact which merely emphasises the biggest problem Hearts have – namely the lack of a serious goalscoring threat.

With Jonnson suspended for the Kilmarnock game next Saturday, the poll on the Vital site (asking who should be our right-back) might start to show a slightly different result soon.

In a week dominated by media-fuelled speculation about if and when anybody at Tynecastle would be receiving their wages, the extent of this defeat is VERY disappointing. We have to hope that Csaba can organise and energise the players in time for the visit of another ex-Hearts manager`s team next week.

I lost an afternoon of my life in Dundee yesterday that I cannot have back. It was truly awful- words can’t describe the incompetence.

Sounds horrific and it worries me that all the air seems to have gone out the team. I’m sure Csaba can pick up the team, but there is a real lack of umph (again) and goals oaring which I?m afraid can’t be rectified until January.

Two words. Gary Frickin’ Glen. That is all.

  • ScandinavianJambo says:

Yeah where is the Glen boy and why is he not playing?!

  • itsnomarooned says:

Glen performed well in the last few games of last season but to hail him as some great hope is a bit premature surely. He’ll need to be properly used – sparingly if necessary – and more senior players should be stepping up to the plate. I see Calum Elliot scored again for Livi ……. oh dear !!

  • StockportJambo says:

Take your point itsnomarooned, but he’s really not much (any?) younger than Mole and yet Mole has started every game this season. At the very least, Mole should be rested, and Glen / Nade / Tullberg (or any combination thereof) should be given a chance. To borrow a golfing analogy, we can be brilliant from tee to green – but unless we find someone able to putt its all meaningless. These players are not going to get match fit sitting in the stands or on the bench.

Mole has burnt out. It’s time for a change up front. Watching Spurs at the weekend on the telly box was like a very bad deja vu. One striker. No support. Midfield gives the ball away more than it completes passes.

From the radio commentary and reports I have read this seems to have been a rather frustrating and lacklustre performance from the players (and a poor show tactically from the manager) comparable to so many we saw under Frail last season This is an early watershed moment for Csaba and his team. A similar showing against Kilmarnock in terms of attitude and tactics will cast doubt on the manager?s credentials to learn from defeat and to motivate players. A strong improvement in both departments will renew our faith somewhat. Bring out the clichés ? the honeymoon period is over, time to walk the walk etc. etc.

  • ScandinavianJambo says:

I wouldn’t want to compare Csaba with Frail (no disrespect), as I really think he is tactically more competent and is able to keep the players disciplined. I still believe they are able to fight for third place, but they are not even near the capacities displayed 3 years ago. The old firm is pulling ahead and as much as I would love this to be different I am pleased that we are situated on the upper end of the table after last years fiasco. Csaba has actually reached his own goal to be in the top six, fighting to play in Europe. One step at the time?
