The chances of Hearts striker Kevin Kyle returning to first team action this season appear to be getting slimmer and slimmer as the weeks go by, with latest reports indicating that the club are not much further forward in addressing his injury problem than they were when he first sustained it back in January.
Kyle had been a key player for the Jambos this season and it will be little coincidence that their form has tailed off a little since he limped out of their Scottish Cup exit against St Johnstone in January.
He may not be a particularly gifted footballer and certainly isn’t everyone’s ‘cup of tea’, but Kyle’s contribution to the side cannot be underestimated, with his general presence on the field counting every bit as much as the 10 goals he has scored to date. He gives the opposition something to worry about whenever he’s on the park and appears to be a talismanic leader out there, the sort that Hearts had lacked since Steven Pressley left the club. Without him you can clearly see the difference in general attitude throughout the side.
So it’s obviously very disappointing to hear about the complications surrounding his injury. It reminds me very much of when Colin Cameron had a mysterious problem back in the late ’90s, which if I remember correctly resulted in something being done to his teeth to fix a problem in his leg?! Yeah…all made sense didn’t it?! This sort of thing always seems to happen to your best players, too, such is life.
Hearts Assistant Manager Billy Brown had this to say about the Kyle situation:
‘Kevin had a problem a few years ago when he was at Sunderland with his hip.
‘He is seeing someone today and hopefully we will know more after that. We hope he will be back before the season ends but if not then we will just have to get on with it.’
Whatever the solution ends up being here, let’s hope the club can find it soon and that big Kevin can get a few run-outs before the end of the season.
