Hearts Part Company With ‘Giant Talent’!

Hearts defender Jose Goncalves has gone on loan to German side Nuremburg for the next season.

The former Portugal under-21 international, who has earned such flattering descriptions as ‘bombscare’, ‘accident waiting to happen’ and my personal favourite, ‘fecking useless’ from the Hearts support, has never been able to hold down a regular first-team place. Indeed popular belief is that the only reason he did so towards the end of the last season was simply to get him in the shop window for any prospective buyers.

The fact that many of us believe there was more chance of selling Goncalves if scouts DIDN’T see him in action was evidently inaccurate….either that or Nuremburg’s people went to see another Jose Goncalves who fits the description that their coach Thomas Von Heesen gives him. He had this to say of his new signing:

‘He brings everything along. He is a giant talent and a thoroughbred athlete with big ambitions’.

I wonder – is it actually the football club in Nuremburg that Jose has signed for? He’s certainly a ‘thoroughbred athlete’, but in terms of football ability I really can’t see what else in his skill set is worthy of the accolade ‘giant talent’. Perhaps they’re simply looking for someone to be the pace-maker on the running track for pre-season training – he’d be good at that!

Ah well – perhaps there’s some talent in there that we simply haven’t been allowed to witness due to the well-documented problems at Circus Tynecastle – who knows.

Jose’s move is initially a season-long loan deal, with a view to making this permanent should things go well.

Maybe all they’re looking for is someone who can chuck a ball the length of the pitch! I’m not bothered at all about him leaving and any question over perhaps being better under a “normal” coaching system is moot as we don’t have one. Oh happy days!

Come to think of it he’s got another talent which is shielding the ball out of play. He’s then in the position to use that talent to showcase his only other talent. Pretty clever really.

The plus side is that the giraffe won’t be playing for Hearts any longer. A pity, because he did look the part when he first arrived – but never the same player after his injury.

I guess you could say this is a victory for the Romanov policy of playing hardball with prospective buyers – a policy which sometimes backfires when the other club get fed up and pull out (like the Tall interest over a year ago). Hopefully Lee Wallace will become regular 1st choice now.

I really couldn’t care less about players leaving as players don’t matter so long as we continue without a manager who isn’t allowed to pick the team. I mean honestly does it matter who is at the club when 3rd rate Eastern European players will get the nod based on Romanov’s personal preference? Goncalves looked good to begin with and then as others mentioned dipped after his injury. We could have big Henry at the club and I wouldn’t give a monkeys as he probably wouldn’t get a game anyway. In short stuff players we need a manager! A manager who gets to pick the bloomin’ team! I would swear if I could get away with it on the forum! Trust me I have been swearing a lot recently.

Well I have to say use are thicker than I imagened! the guy was ok and would have been a player had use had a manager in the last 3 years! no guidance!

  • Specs Haver says:

Albertz – agreed about Goncalves having potential, which is wasted without a decent manager. By the way – how do you think “use” will do this coming season ?

  • Dalien says:

He had potential Albertz, but the injury had an effect. Also I agree the manager is the issue. Without management all players can end up playing well below their potential. Of course I have already said this in my previous post, but I just can’t stress it enough.

  • imcd says:

Surely “Bambi on Ice” was the best “flattering” description.

  • MrH says:

I think this ‘potential’ that’s being referred to was simply the fact that he looked good when he wasn’t in possession of the football i.e. shepherding it out, looking to part in terms of athleticism, long throws, etc. He was NEVER a decent footballer, and mentally didn’t appear to truly understand the game, which to be fair a decent coach perhaps could have sorted. Personally, I don’t agree with many of “use”……”use” are stupid!

The Hearts site are now reporting that Jose has just agreed a new 2-year contract with us! Confused? – you will be!

  • Dalien says:

I noticed that too… Seriously I am beginning to wonder what goes on in Vlad’s head. On a completely subject though, has anyone noticed how accurate Talk107 is managing to get it’s reports in advance of everyone else?

  • StockportJambo says:

Jose’s contract was up at the end of the current season – so this way Hearts get a transfer fee as well as giving Nuremberg what they want and take him on loan as a trial for a year. As to Talk107 – Donkey is one of the very few journalists left who is not on the Hearts blacklist, so when he prints something, you know it’s likely to have more truth in it than most.

  • albertz01 says:

We will be doing fine and will win the league and with a decent european run again I will be happy!

  • hoopymo says:

Yeah the first wish there, that’s probably not gonna happen mate. Not trying to be cruel, just don’t want you to get your hopes up.

  • MrH says:

Rangers need to improve big time to have a chance of those targets surely?

  • hoopymo says:

indeed they do, the rest of europe (as shown by the euros) has become wise to the anti football and they know how to counter it now
