Hearts are due to receive £333,000 from Sunderland after former goalkeeper Craig Gordon made his 50th appearance for the Black Cats at Norwich on Monday night.
The money, the result of a contract clause that was part of the original agreement to take Gordon south after the initial transfer of around £8million was agreed between the two clubs, should hopefully be a welcome boost for Hearts in their bid to strengthen the striking department of their team.
I say ‘hopefully’, because it is not clear how much money Csaba Laszlo is being given in this respect, or indeed how much say he is having on which players come to the club at the moment. It is also not certain whether or not this amount of money has in fact already been budgeted for in advance of Gordon playing this number of games for Sunderland. I’d like to think that it hadn’t as it would have been a dangerously presumptious course of action to take given the unpredictable nature of football, but you never know about these things, particularly at a club like Hearts where very little evidence of precise financial dealings is now available publicly.
Fingers crossed though, folks……..
