Hearts have this morning announced a new kit deal with Umbro that will apparently net them a seven-figure sum for each of the next two years following this season.
As well as the record amount of money being generated from such a deal for the club (I’m pretty sure it’s unprecedented for Hearts to bring in a seven-figure sum in a single year for a kit deal?), an extra bonus will be that Hearts will become the sole UK distributor of all replica merchandise, which should enable the club to make even more money out of this.
Chairman Roman Romanov said of the new deal:
‘This deal will allow us to take our retail operations on to the next level, supported, in particular, by reintroducing our own exclusive replica kit merchandise rights in the UK.’
There has been a fair bit of negativity on this site in recent weeks and not without justification, but without knowing all of the ins and outs of this announcement, on the surface it sounds like very good news for the club. So credit where it’s due to those who helped to make this happen.
