Hearts Send Both Trialists Packing

Hearts have elected not to sign either of the two trialists that they had at the club last week.

Striker Graham Barrett and central defender Arunas Klimavicius were both given the chance to impress manager Csaba Laszlo last week as they trained with the rest of his team, but in the end the Hungarian decided not to pursue his interest in either player.

To be honest in the case of Barrett at least, this did seem likely from the outset, and it’s pleasing that our club are no longer apparently making signings simply for the sake of it….or at least I hope that’s the case. It could certainly be argued that both Janos Balogh and David Obua were signings that were not really in areas that required strengthening earlier in the season (or now for that matter), but perhaps lessons have been learned since then and only players who will be able to significantly enhance the squad will be brought in from now.

Both Barrett and Klimavicius play in positions that quite clearly do need strengthening at the present moment, but if neither were any better than what’s already at the club, then it most definitely is the correct decision not to take this any further.

I agree with you, Mr H – and it shows that Csaba is not willing to lower the standards, just so that he can bring in whoever happens to be available. I think Obua and Balogh have both already shown that they are good players and definitely enhance the squad. It would be nice to think that Tullberg’s future performances will also add credence to Csaba’s fledgling reputation for only bringing in good players !!
