As suggested would happen earlier in the week by Csaba Laszlo, Hearts have signed their second goalkeeper in as many weeks after they took Hungarian Janos Balogh on loan from Debrecan.
There doesn’t appear to be much in the way of information from Hearts as to the reasons why they signed both Balogh and also Marian Kello from Kaunas, but reading between the lines you’d have to imagine that this means the end for Steve Banks’ playing career at Tynecastle. He isn’t even meriting a mention now from those giving quotes on the goalkeepers at Hearts.
Laszlo has talked very positively about the abilities of Kello and Jamie MacDonald who played at Ibrox last Saturday, and he also had some words of encouragement on the signing of Balogh. He told the club’s official website:
‘This is a player that we’ve been very keen to bring to the club. He will provide valuable competition with Marian and Jamie.
Like Marian, Janos is young but has very good experience and he will be a good addition to our squad. I am happy to welcome him’.
At least this guy sounds as though he was Csaba’s choice. It’ll be interesting to see who gets the nod as the number one over the coming weeks though….

I suppose this is a positive as it means that a player has been signed on merit rather than Kaunas links. I heard someone the other day touting Banks for hibs.
Probably just an envious Hibby, Dalien !! The more I think about this goalie saga, the more I think the majority of the events have been positive – the only negative ones being Vlad apparently telling the players at Ibrox that Banks is “untrustworthy” (surely something has been lost in translation ?) …. and Csaba’s poor answer as to why Banks played against Motherwell (“we had no other goalkeepers”).
It’s perhaps not overly bad as for me Banks was only ever competent at best – certainly not an outstanding goalkeeper. It’s more the nature of what seems to have gone on that’s been worrying.
