Following their 18-0 win against non-league St Cuthbert`s Wanderers in the previous round, our U-19 team secured a hard-fought 2-0 win at Tynecastle against St. Johnstone on Friday night. Goals from Gordon Smith in the first half, and Danny Thomson near the end, takes Hearts into the next round. Some new names featured in our team, such as Lyness in goals, and McKenna in midfield.
Let`s hope the experiences of winning at this level breeds the right sort of mentality in these young players in a couple of years time when they should hopefully be knocking on the first-team door.
A similar win at Hamilton tomorrow for the big team would be rather welcome !!
