Kingston Set For Hearts Return

Larry Kingston is due to resume full training on Thursday according to reports this afternoon.

The Hearts midfielder, who has been away on African Nations Cup duty with Ghana for the past couple of months, sustained a foot injury that has kept him out of action for the past few weeks. However he is now said to be in contention for a place in the squad who visit Motherwell on Saturday.

Kingston’s creativity has clearly been missed by a Hearts side who have struggled to score goals in his absence. I must admit, I never thought they’d miss him quite as much as they have due to his tendency to drift in and out of matches, but I suppose quality is quality and even small dribs and drabs of it are missed when they’re no longer there. It’ll therefore be good to have Larry back…..

Larry on the right, Driver on the left. Surely there will be rich pickings for Velicka and A.N. other.

  • MrH says:

And who should A.N. Other be?

  • Dalien says:

I wonder if we can hold onto his services. I sit next to a guy at work who is a massive Rangers fan and “knows” a coach or something and he claims Kingston is on his way to the Gers, and to be fair he has had the lead on a couple of things in the past. I really do wonder who will play alongside Velicka, I suppose only time will tell.

Not sure if Kingston would consider Rangers a step up for his career though. They probably wouldn’t even offer him more money.

Dalien – the old “I know someone on the inside” routine is nearly always a dead parrot. As Mr. H suggests, going to either of the OF wouldn’t be much of a step up for Laryea, who seems to be quite a level-headed family man. I doubt if he would view the Glasgow goldfish bowl with much desire – the only attraction would be playing in Europe – in fact its doubtful if he would want to be subjected much longer to the Scottish “style” of football anyway. A move to an English Premier league club would probably be much more appealing – a lot more money, exposure, big crowds, big name players, and a very good chance of getting into Europe (more than a third of the league seem to qualify !!). Anyway it will be interesting to see if Hearts fare any better in terms of playing performance with his return. Hopefully his presence will improve the mediocre contributions from Driver and Stewart.

Agreed, although I’m not sure that Kingston is the sort of player who’d flourish in the Premiership. You need to be a worker in that league.

i remember bolton tried to buy him before you lot got him on loan

  • Specs Haver says:

Yes, Bolton were credited with an interest in him. Given that African players are now “fashionable” and many are flourishing in the EPL, I reckon Laryea would attract interest from the Boltons, Readings, Fulhams, Blackburns

  • Dalien says:

I tend to agree that England would be a more realistic option for him, especially as the money is available. One thing I always hope for when a good player gets set to leave Hearts is that he never goes to the old firm. I thought it was a dark day when McCann left and even worse when Harltey and Preseley left for the OF. I would hate to see it but you can never say never.

  • MrH says:

In terms of wages we seem to be on a more even keel with the OF at the moment, certainly as far as the likes of Kingston are concerned. I’d imagine if he were to move to another UK club it would be his ambition to be in England – can’t see him wanting to go to Glasgow.

  • Dalien says:

    I hope he doesn’t.

Ever the optomist me but this could be “as good as signing a new player” and the proverbial shot in the arm for the team. I’m guessing that he’ll be on a high after Gahna did well and this will hopefully carry on to the day job!
