Neilson Plays Down Title Talk

Hearts started the Scottish Premiership season much as we ended the Scottish Championship campaign, which was won by a country mile in the end, in winning fashion winning the open five-matches in a row!

Back-to-back defeats against Hamilton and Livingston have seen Hearts drop from the top of the SPL but it’s still been a very impressive return to the topflight for the Jambos hasn’t it?

Robbie Neilson knows it’s still early days, and as we prepare for the meeting with current league leaders Aberdeen, he’s spoken to Sky Sports, who will show the game, about this and title talk!

Neilson believes it’s premature, with or without successive defeats, to be talking about Hearts pushing defending Champions Celtic and Aberdeen for the Premiership title.

He’s not ruling this out but has said there’s still ‘a long, long way to go’ yet.

‘It’s a long, long way to go. It’s one game at a time. We are only seven games into the season. We’ve still got a lot of football to play.

‘Celtic have got a huge budget and they’ve got a big squad, and have the ability to go in the January transfer window and spend big and bring players in to bolster their league title challenge.

‘So we have to work hard and get a bit of a rub of the green as well, like Aberdeen.’

Aberdeen, following victory over Celtic last weekend, go into the weekend with a five-point lead over Celtic so we can be certain they’ll be looking for us to do them a favour on Sunday at Tynecastle!
