Our poll asking you to choose the best goalkeeper you’ve seen playing for Hearts in the last 30 years produced a very close result, predictably coming down to being between Antti Niemi and Craig Gordon.
In the end the poll, which also included Henry Smith, Gilles Rousset, Jim Cruickshank and Nicky Walker as options, ended with Niemi edging it on 39% from Gordon who received 36% of the vote.
I reckon that this is an accurate reflection upon the abilities of these guys. For me, although Gordon has the potential to be the best goalkeeper we’ve ever had, Niemi still edges it as the best I’ve seen playing for Hearts. He just had everything, including great presence in the penalty area, which is the one thing that in my opinion Gordon still lacks.
I’m sure that will come though, but sadly it looks as though when it does, he won’t be playing for us any more! We’ll see – I hope I’m wrong obviously.

Has to be Niemi – too many errors creep into Gordon’s game – especially against Celtic.
I voted for Henry Smith myself.
I always loved Henry actually, but sadly for him any mistakes he made tended to be at crucial times in massive games! Therefore the vast majority of football fans in the country who maybe only saw him in those games wouldn’t appreciate just how good he was.
I voted for niemi he was a class keeper i was gutted when he moved to southampton!
Weren’t we all!
