Screpis Signs For Hearts

At long last Hearts have signed a player in this January transfer window.

Argentinian midfielder Fernando Screpis, who has spent the season with FBK Kaunas to date, was due to sign for Hearts on January 1, but alarm bells were ringing that someone may have gone off the idea as the club failed to contact the player until only a few days ago. It was all a bit strange, but Screpis is now a Hearts player and has reportedly signed a 3.5 year contract.

I don’t know an awful lot about Screpis to be honest. According to the club’s website he is a 28 year-old attacking midfield player, who scored three goals in 17 matches with Argentinian side Defensores de Belgrano last season.

We’ve talked very recently at length about the need to strengthen what is a very weak Hearts midfield at the moment, so we can only hope that this guy can help to do just that. From what we’re hearing about him though, it doesn’t really sound as though he’s the sort of player that we REALLY need i.e. a bruiser or a midfield general. It sounds more like he would provide direct competition to the likes of Michael Stewart, Ruben Palazuelos or Larry Kingston, which if he’s a decent player WILL be positive for the squad, but will still mean that we are glaringly short in other areas.

Let’s think positive on this though…….maybe we’ve unearthed the next Maradona…….or………………

At 28, I doubt he’s the new Maradona. However, if he can do a job for us, then great. If he’s got experience playing in the Argentinian league then he should be able to handle himself physically.

It seems this will be our only “signing” – very, very disappointing.

We can only hop, guys. But I’m a bit underwhelmed at the saga so far. If you were desperate to get a “dream move” to a new employer …. and then the call came through that your interview had been successful… wouldn’t you shave and put a nice suit on before you turned up for your first day ? On the HMFC website there’s a picture of a guy who looks like a drug dealer in cap, t-shirt and jeans signing a contract.

Call me old-fashioned, but a wee bit of traditional style goes a long way. I wonder if Vlad’s unearthed another Pinilla here – make all the right noises for the press, but is just here for the ride

Think he was just off the plane from Argentina m8 – give him a chance. Maybe he’ll be quite good. Well, here’s hopping, eh. 🙂

Take your point, but if Cesc Fabregas had strolled into Tynie looking like a dosed-up drug dealer with jeans on I wouldn’t have been complaining!

Hello guys, I’ve been reading your website for quite some time now. I am from Kaunas, Lithuania so I can give you some information about the players coming to Hearts from FBK Kaunas.
Speaking about this Screpis, you should have very little hope he will improve your team. He was just an ordinary player in our local league, which is WAY below the level of the SPL. I would be very surprised if he become a regular first team player.
If you guys will ever need some thoughts about the likes of Kurskis or Ivaskevicius just let me know :).

Summed up in a nutshell by Donatasp. Another bit of shhh1te to go with the rest. “The players will come, the manager will come”

Very interesting Donatasp, but sadly not unexpected. Thanks for the info and welcome aboard!

Stonesy, until we get a manager (who will come, of that I’m sure), what is the point of signing players? Bringing Screpis in was just fulfilling the club’s contractual obligations.

Interesting comment from Donatasp. To Mr. H and StockportJambo – agreed that we shouldn’t judge the guy until we see what he can do. My comment was simply based on what came into my head when seeing the picture for the first time -“I don’t need to make an effort” could have been the caption.

If he turns out even half as good as Fabregas, I’ll gladly buy Screpis a new baseball cap and say sorry !!

Maybe buy the lad a suit as well….
