Another Disappointing Hearts Kit?

So what’s the verdict on the new away strip then? I have to say I was quite optimistic when I heard it was going to be an ‘Ajax-style’ strip that was perhaps reminiscent of the one we had in the ’70s, but my first impression of it is not positive.

I can’t quite identify what it is, but it’s yet another Hearts strip that just doesn’t excite me. Perhaps it’s the lack of maroon in there. This is the colour that defines Hearts and for me every strip, home or away, should contain a distinctive spattering it.

The last time I can remember Hearts having a truly decent kit was probably as far back as the 1998 season, the year that Jim Jefferies’ famous team won the Scottish Cup sporting the white away kit.. Both kits were essentially identical to each other that year with the colours swapped around i.e. white shirts and maroon shorts for the away kit. It was simple but classy – the kits since then have been disappointing in this respect.

The best kit I can ever remember Hearts wearing was the deep maroon one they used for both the Coca Cola Cup Final against Rangers and a home Cup Winners’ Cup tie against Red Star Belgrade. That’s the only time I can remember Hearts wearing a ‘proper’ maroon colour – most of the others have been far too light by comparison, to the point where at least a couple of them have been almost purple (e.g. Joe Jordan’s team in ’91/92).

Maybe if and when we once again get a team to be proud of, the manufacturers will give them a kit that’s worthy of them!

Yet to see one in the flesh, but I like the look of the pictures. It’s certainly a whole lot better than the Hibs away kit. Sorry you don’t like it – as with all kits though – if you don’t like it, don’t buy it. I’ll buy one for my daughter when / if we get a manager.

Very much a personal thing, but….nah…not for me! I’m sure your daughter will love it though!

I think it’s the best away kit we’ve had in years, and will be the first away top I’ve bought in a long time.

i think the white away top with the maroon pinstripes (correct me if im wrong) was good for hearts a few years ago

Think that’s the one MrH is referring to… the white with maroon pinstripes was the 1998 one. Personally, I like this. I think it looks quite striking. I’ve never bought an away top before because… well… they’re always so naff… but this will probably change my mind. Oh and MrH, my daughter will only love it if Daddy has a matching one. Not sure how I’m going to explain to her though after having taught her about “the talk of the toon…” why there’s no maroon in there… :-/

Remember guys the original colours of this club are Maroon, White and Navy. So having the Navy in there isn’t any less “hearts” than maroon and white.

Nah I think it is DT – we’re more associated with that colour. Doesn’t mean we can’t change it once and a while but I prefer some sort of maroon in them. Oh and hoopymo, think the pinstriped top you’re referring to was from around 1990 – one we wore in the Olympic Stadium against Bayern – agreed that was a good one.

Fair enough MrH but the clubs colours are traditionally Maroon, White and Navy, so I have no problem with it being white and navy, as also traditionally maroon doesnt feature in the away strip. Now if the home strip was to launch and was to have little to no maroon then I’d be *****ed off.

I’m not really sure it is the colour that’s put me off this one looking at it again…..I just don’t really like it for some reason. Nice idea for a design but perhaps lacks of a bit of class…not entirely sure why. Personal taste though isn’t it?

At the end of the day yeah, you cant please all of the people all of the time.

New strip and an super extended time to renew your season tickets… With tickets going so fast for next season the new strip will probably fly off the shelves just as quick…

  • MrH says:

It’ll probably be popular simply because it’s different. Remember how well the ‘Inter Milan’-style one sold.
