Celtic Warned Off Wilson

It’s little surprise that our captain Danny Wilson, formerly of Rangers and Liverpool, is attracting attention given his quality. One such club reportedly interested in him are Celtic but we’re under no pressure to sale and aren’t looking to do so following our Premiership return.

With Celtic seemingly destined to lose current defensive pairing Virgil van Dijk, who is attracting a lot of attention from club in England, and Jason Denayer returning to his parent club Man City, replacements are being sought by the reigning champions, and soon to be confirmed as winners again.

Celtic manager Ronny Deila hopes to resolve those issues but has said, in quotes carried by the Daily Mail recently; that Wilson is of interest to him.

‘He (Wilson) is one of many names we are looking at. I know all about him, of course. He is a good player but there is nothing in that right now.

‘We are looking for central defenders. That is an important target because of Jason and also because of the situation with Virgil. Hopefully we will keep him.’

As Wilson is moving into the final year of his contract we could risk losing him with a reported £400,000 to be made for the Scottish international?

Ann Budge says that our financial footing, with us very much ‘in good health’, means we don’t have a need to sale and aren’t looking to sell anyway with her ‘confident we can hang on to the majority of the people we currently have.’

Budge did, of course, add that if ‘something hugely substantial came in’ you have to think twice.

‘That said, it is a commercial world out there and if someone comes long and offers someone something hugely substantial, then who knows?’

It was stressed that that we’ll not part with anyone ‘on the cheap’ and £400,000 for Wilson, moving into the last year of his contract or not, isn’t substantial enough is it?
