Frail Rates Gordon At £10 million

Hearts assistant coach Stevie Frail says that he’d be looking for around £10 million if Craig Gordon is to be sold in the summer.

Frail was quoted as part of a Daily Ranger article about the Hearts ‘keeper, which surprisingly states that there’s a possibility that Gordon could remain at Hearts beyond the summer. One would have to assume there could be some truth in this, as the publication in question have never exactly been quick to write stories with a negative slant on our club!

But Frail insists that if it does get to the stage where Gordon has to leave, the club must receive a proper amount of money for a player of his ability and with Scott Brown going to Celtic for £4.5 million this week, he seems to think that Gordon’s value should be even higher now.

He said: ‘Scott Brown is a fantastic player and has just secured a great move but I think we’d be looking for double his fee for Craig, probably £10million. He’s top drawer, I’m glad he’s in our goal and I don’t think such a transfer fee would scare the top clubs.

‘They are happy to pay £15m for strikers but it’s equally important to have someone in goal who is also very good.

‘Only Craig will decide if he wants to be here next season – I’d love to have him for the next three or four years.

‘He’s a very level-headed young guy and knows what he wants to do and when he wants to do it.

‘He’s going to the very top, to one of the best clubs in Europe or down south.

‘I’ve heard Craig say he doesn’t want to go yet. The club would have to consider a bid of £10m-£12m but I hope he stays here longer.’

I don’t think you can rate a player based on what another was transferred for, but you can see Frail’s point to a certain extent. Gordon is an established internationalist who has produced distinguished performances in Europe with both club and country against some of the best players in the world. Therefore by that reckoning and the fact that he’s not much older than Brown, he should really have a higher transfer value. Whether you believe he’s worth £10 million is another question altogether however.

Like Frail says though, I would much rather that he stayed at Hearts for longer.
