Gattuso – Son Of Satan?

Manchester United’s performance in Milan last night may have been as poor as Kaka’s skills are impressive, but the thing that was most etched on my mind after that game was just how utterly despisable that little urchin Gattuso is!

Don’t get me wrong, I have to give the wee Italian credit where it’s due, as he was nothing short of a liability during his time with Rangers, spending more time suspended than playing. Even when he was playing, he was never a particularly decent player either, even in the Scottish league. So to have ended up playing at one of the top sides in Europe and actually now being considered one of their most valuable players is a hell of an achievement. No-one can deny that.

But the way he carried on last night was a disgrace. We’re used to seeing Italian sides in Europe using every dirty trick in the book to their advantage, so the time-wasting, injury-feigning and off-the-ball digs were nothing new. But to consistently scream abuse at opposition players, using clearly derogatory hand signals in the process on at least one occasion, really does show him up for what he is – pondlife. It was quite easy to lip-read the language he was using too, which was clearly a nod to his time at a certain club in the west of Scotland!

And what exactly did provoke that mass tantrum towards Paul Scholes? Scholes having the audacity to play on while yet another Italian player was down with cramp? Come on – cramp? A professional footballer after 75 minutes? Get a grip. They’d been dropping like flies all night so Scholes had every right to play on – in fact, I couldn’t believe the number of times that United sportingly gave the Italians the ball back after the incessant cheating they had to put up with.

I’ll guarantee you that had a United player carried on the way Gattuso did he’d have been off sharpish…..and that would have been the correct decision. You can’t carry on like that. Why wasn’t he sent off? Well…..let’s just say that I’m pretty confident that the referee would had been well ‘looked after’ during his stay in Milan!

So as much as Milan deserved to go through over the two legs, the antics of Gattuso and some others does leave a bad taste in the mouth. I hope Liverpool give them a doing in the final, but if they can’t, a nice consolation would be to see the likes of Carragher going right through Gattuso to give him something to genuinely complain about!

Yes, the ******** had Scholes by the throat at one point. You have to blame the officials for permitting that crap – the rule ought to be if the referee (or another player) spots a player in genuine trouble esp head injury -then blow up, or kick the ball into touch -fair enough? But to routinely stop the game because a player is down just plays into the hands of the cheats. I suspect players are being instructed to go down during key passages of play to interrupt the game- sure Drogba did it after the first Liverpool goal when they were hunting the second – it killed their momentum and gave Chelsea breathing space.

  • MrH says:

Of course – this has gone on for years and no doubt United would have been running the clock down had they been in front too. Doesn’t make it right, though. It’s a shame that Gattuso acted the way he did because he played well in the game and was actually what United were missing.

Italians, playing In Italy, what the ***** else did we expect to happen?, its always been one rule for them, especially at home. Hope the POOL hump the fanny’s.

  • Craig Cain says:

Poor defending as at OT cost them the game. Looked jaded and too many had shockers. Gave possession too easily and yes, Ronaldo was over elaborate

Dropping like flies? Just face it, Milan won 3-0 because they played better and had more spirit. Every team needs a player like Gattuso – someone with real strength and determination. A little hot-headed perhaps, but better to be like that than the spotty, greasy prima donna Man Utd have, prancing around on the field.

You’re “pretty confident that the referee would had been well ‘looked after’ during his stay in Milan!” are you? I suggest you take a break from journalism and come back with you know a bit more about football.

The only thing Carragher will be going through is back down the tunnel with nothing – he’s *****.

  • MrH says:

I actually agree with what you say la madonnina – they did win because they played better and had more spirit. And Ronaldo was absolutely hopeless. But that still doesn’t excuse the behaviour we saw and some of the blatant cheating that they got away with. Do you think it’s far-fetched to say that a referee in Italy was biased towards the home side?

  • la madonnina says:

No, not at all far fetched, but I think in this case it is. I remember commenting on how clean the game was for the most part with hardly any bookings until the end when players started to get irritable. It was unfortunate that Gattuso had Scholes round the neck like that – I only wish he’d squeezed a bit harder 😉

  • MrH says:

Everyone has different opinions. I felt that, even though United were never really at the races, they never really got a decision all night. They were being niggled all over the field and not being given free-kicks that were being given to Milan. That sort of that CAN make a difference.

  • Craig Cain says:

Italy should be kicked out of UEFA tournaments per se
    Cheating
    Corruption
    Match-Fixing
    Nazi toting ultras
Brutal unproffesional cowards for police officers
    the list goes on…

  • MrH says:

They don’t seem to be able to win with any class either do they?

  • Craig Cain says:

No grace, like the loud mouth Mourinho

  • MrH says:

Indeed. Right I’m away to take a break, Craig…..when i’m back I’ll let you know if my football knowledge has improved…..doubt it will though!

  • inter22 says:

U english cant take it when u know italian teams are better than u ***** THE LOT OF YOU!!!!!!!!

  • inter22 says:

AND BY THE WAY U WANNA SEE DIVING LOOK AT MR C.RONALDO

  • MrH says:

Err….English?! Who’s English? I’m insulted! I agree that Ronaldo is as big a cheat as the best of them pal, but I’d appreciate if you could make your point in a slightly less offensive way. Thanks.

  • inter22 says:

All i know is that ac milan are in the final, END OF!!!

  • AirHearts says:

I can’t agree with you on this one MrH! I think Gattuso (with Kaka) is the most valuable player Milan has. Gattuso is the type of player that your opponents hate, but your fans love – he is the spirit of Milan, fights for every ball, in every situation, giving his everything. He shows passion and even though he does get overheated at times, I think that can be forgiven. His passion is what football is all about. In this particular match Gattuso inspired Milan to victory – I was told that when Milan came on to the pitch to warm up he ran at the top of his pace constantly for a few minutes until he had lost all of his breath. Now talk about firing your team up!!!

  • AirHearts says:

Besides, I would have Gattuso in my team any time…

  • MrH says:

Yes they are inter22 and they thoroughly deserve to be there – that wasn’t the point of this article though. So as for “end of”, it’s not even the “start of” I’m afraid! AirHearts I completely agree with most of what you say – I just felt he went OTT and was inexplicably let off with it.

  • AirHearts says:

So he shouted some curse words at the opposing players, and had a short brawl with Scholes… big deal. I mean if you are familiar with the continental game you know that this happens once in a while and players don’t get sent off for it (unlike in Scotland). In this case I just can’t see any bias towards the Italians, the referee was simply keeping the line that many of the European fans are used to. I’m not saying it’s good, but at the moment this is the way it is.
