German Rober Linked With Hearts Job

Talk 107 are suggesting that the mysterious German being interviewed for the Hearts manager’s post is former Hertha Berlin manager Jurgen Rober.

Like many such stories we’ve heard lately in relation to this, there’s not much in the way of concrete information for us to feel particularly confident that this is the man, but the one thing in its favour is that at least the source is relatively reputable in comparison to the likes of the Ranger or the Express!

As a few of the guys on a previous article have pointed out, if you take a quick look at Rober’s record it perhaps doesn’t bowl you over in terms of his achievement in the game, but to be honest it could be a lot, lot worse.

The pinnacle of Rober’s playing career was a Bundesliga championship medal with Bayern Munich in the early ’80s. He started managing a decade later Rot-Weiss Essen, and has since had spells with VFB Stuttgart, Partizan Belgrade, Hertha Berlin and Borussia Dortmund, from whom he resigned in 2007.

It would appear as though his best managerial achievement was gaining promotion for Hertha and then steering them to third place in the top league and hence Champions League football.

We’ll see what happens with this. As we know, Hearts have been linked with a remarkable number of names this summer and this could simply be yet another of those that we forget as soon as we first hear of, but perhaps not…..

Anything is better than what we have now. I feel he does at least have experience in a tough league and has done something with a club there. I as usual wont believe anything until I see him in a Hearts scarf at a game.

Oh well – the Hunday Mail are reporting an interview by Rober where he declares he will NOT be taking the job, beacuse…. surprise, surprise … he didn’t like Romanov’s insistence on choosing the players. Looks like they’ll have to send for trusty old Shaggy soon !!

The only optimistic thing I can see in all these rejections is that Hearts are looking in the right area – i.e. guys who have some notable feat on their CV – and actually succeeding in getting them to at least CONSIDER a move to Hearts. So, the next question is – will the search continue at this level ? Or will they bring in a pyramid puppet ? Or else target an out-of-work manager on the basis that he’ll be more desperate and will accept Romanov’s “rules” ? As for Frail, I actually hope he tells them where to stick their “job”.
