Hearts To Appoint German Manager?

Strong rumours are doing the rounds that Hearts are poised to appoint a new manager on Monday.

I’m quite sure that if we all had a fiver for every time we’ve heard a rumour of this nature since the end of last season, then we’d be very reach people indeed by now, but given the nature of Stevie Frail’s
abrupt treatment at Riccarton earlier in the week, it would appear as though some sort of announcement is imminent.

There doesn’t appear to be a great deal of information being circulated about the alleged new man, other than the fact that he is said to be German. This has immediately got the doom-mongerers amongst us panicking that we’re about to unveil Berti Vogts as our new manager (I’m sure that they have Dalien’s sympathies!), but to be honest although it’s very tempting to fear the worst given the way ou club is generally run, who really knows who it will be?

There were some suggestions in the press earlier in the week that Lothar Matthaus was again in the running for the job, but then that sounded very much like more straw-clutching from people who don’t know any more than you or I. I’d be very surprised if a supremely self-assured and arrogant World Cup legend like Matthaus would be prepared to work for someone like Romanov though, so I wouldn’t get my hopes up too much about that possibility.

Perhaps the likes of Rainer Bonhof would be a more realistic target given his knowledge of the game in Scotland (and possibly wouldn’t be a bad shout in my opinion), but again I reckon this could be wishful thinking. In all honesty I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the man we end up with is someone who is at best, unfamiliar to most of us, if not all.

We’ll see…….perhaps by this time next week our latest target will have snubbed us and Frail will be back at Riccarton claiming that everything is ok………..!

Can’t be bothered speculating any more. It might be Herman Goerring for all we know… or Herr Flick from ‘Allo Allo would probably be more appropriate.

I actually have started to accept things, step 5 of the necessary 10 for coping with disillusionment. Vogts would be better than nothing, Lotty wouldn’t touch the job in my opinion. Bonhoff is an interesting one, he actually built up a strong Scottish U21 side and is more respected than Vogts ever was. In my current state of just accepting the bad news I have no real opinion on either 3 as they would be an improvement. But I think realistically as you have stated in your article sir, and as SJ mentioned, we are likely to get Colonel Clink or the guy who tricks Gordon Jackson into speaking English at the end of the Great Escape. However I just hope we have a manager who picks the team and builds on our current lowly position this is all I wish for… Mediocrity and daily round-ups not mentioning Romanov is all I want.

    Herr Flick……..genius!

Bayern Munich had a guy called Hans Dieter Flick in their team against us….wonder if he’s a relation…….

If we’re going for a German what about Wolfgang Wolf. Know nothing about him but it’s a great name and he used to manage …… Wolfsburg!! You couldn’t make it up!

  • Dalien says:

I still find it funny they have a Fritz in the current national squad.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Stereotyping that we should all be thoroughly ashamed of ……. but worth a titter! And Kuntz was a good one too.

I still can’t get over that Russia have a defender called Jerkov. And a forward called Arshavin.

No word yet of any “done deals” ? Maybe thats a good thing actually, after our 2 previous “done deals”. Did any of you read the story today about Romanov deciding that Pinilla’s fitness would be improved if he MISSED the pre-season work at Riccarton and just stayed in Lithuania? Apparently its Pinilla himself who devised his own training schedule there !!! No doubt he’ll have already planned when his first wrist injury is going to show itself.

Frail apparently according to the EEN has told friends that this is why he was told to come back next week.

  • Dalien says:

Talk 107 possible nonsense from them as usual:
“Former Stuttgart and Hertha Berlin boss Jurgen Rober is the latest name linked with the vacant managerial vacancy at Hearts.

It’s claimed the 54 year-old was in Kaunas today for talks with Jambos’ majority shareholder Vladimir Romanov.”

  • Dalien says:

Here’s a wiki of him if anyone is still interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jurgen_Rober

  • Specs Haver says:

Hmmmm… from Herr Flick to Jurgen the German. The description of him in Wiki isn’t exactly inspiring. It says he took a 1 year break to play in ENGLAND and Canada in the early 80s – so that ticks the “must have experience of British football” box !! The mention of Rot Weiss Essen is a bit ominous – didn’t they go down the tubes ? No doubt, Vlad is about to pull a real rabbit out the hat …. heaven help us

  • Specs Haver says:

By the way, the League table for the new season on the page is showing Hearts in 6th place – would anyone else gladly take a 6th place finish this season, given the mess we’re in ?

  • StockportJambo says:

6th is nowhere, but at least it’s still in the division.
