Craig Gordon has today been linked with a move to English champions Manchester United.

Despite some of Stevie Frail’s comments earlier this week indicating that the hope of Gordon staying at Hearts beyond the summer is not completely out of the question, it does look likely that today’s 1-0 defeat at Rugby Park will be his last game for the club. His body language at the end of the match when he through his captain’s armband and gloves into the crowd were definitely those of a man who feels that he’s moving on.

However it is true that we’ve seen players doing this sort of thing before and still remaining at clubs, so you can’t say for sure that he’s definitely leaving until he actually does. But the writing does appear to be on the wall.

The news today on local radio is that Manchester United are preparing a bid which could perhaps be as much as £8million. Only a couple of days ago Frail said that he felt Hearts should be looking for £10million for Gordon, using Scott Brown’s transfer value as a yardstick, but to be honest that sort of money is just ludicrous.

In my view, as good as Craig Gordon is, if Hearts get offered anything like £8million they would have to take it. They could practically rebuild the whole team with money like that and believe me, that needs to happen if they want to come back with a serious challenge next season.

Whether or not United are in fact going to bid for Gordon is something we’ll just have to wait and find out, but if they do then I think we’d all have to accept that it would be a hell of a move for the guy and he’d be a mug not to go for it.

I have a feeling it could be a busy few weeks at Tynecastle, despite the fact the season has just ended…..

BBC Sport is reporting that it ‘understands’ a bid is being considered.
Nothing has broken in the MEN yet however.

So a friend of a friend’s mate in the pub heard something about it then presumably?! Being honest though, we should snap the hands off United if they’re prepared to pay money like that.

Wide of the mark, according to today’s Scotsman. More mischief making from the Glasgow Broadcasting Company.

Still, the more that these small-time media outlets leak news pricing Gordon at double what he’s worth, the more chance we’ll perhaps get a good price for him. No?
