Hamilton 2-0 Hearts

Hearts disappointingly went down 2-0 to lowly Hamilton Accies at New Douglas Park yesterday.

Accies’ Simon Mensing was the man who did the damage, firstly with a header in the 12th minute from a Brian Easton cross, and then early in the second half from the penalty spot, after Robbie Neilson was adjudged to have fouled James McCarthy.

The match potentially gave Hearts’ fans their first look at their team in the post-Christophe Berra era, with the player’s absence yesterday looking more and more as if it will be a permanent one – at the time of writing the skipper merely has to pass a medical at Wolves to seal his move.

We can only hope therefore, that this is not a sign of things to come, as if this is the sort of result that we can expect, then we’re obviously going to be struggling!

Having said that we should give credit where it’s undoubtedly due to Hamilton. The last time these two sides met they were desperately unluckly to leave Tynecastle with nothing, in what was a particularly dreary and bitterly cold 90 minutes in Gorgie. Hearts managed to record a 1-0 win thanks to a Christian Nade goal that night, which was far from merited, so perhaps yesterday it was a case of what goes around comes around. Obviously I can’t say for sure though as I wasn’t at the game!

Csaba Laszlo made these comments to the BBC after the defeat:

‘We had more ball possession, we tried to keep the game.

In the first half, after the goal, we dominated the game, we created some chances.

‘The decision to give the penalty was very unlucky for us.’

Lots of possession but very little to show for it – sounds familiar doesn’t it?

I did go and wished I hadn’t bothered. Not a penalty, Stewart not assertive enough, Zaliukis tried but made too many errors, etc! I took “er indoors” who summed up Nade as a “fat lazy b******” – she knows more than I give her credit for!
