The Daily Record has reported that Conor Newton, formerly with Newcastle but transfer-listed by present club Rotherham, is in talks about a move to Hearts this summer.

Newton’s familiar to us, or should be, as he was the man that scored the winner for St Mirren during a loan spell that won them the League Cup in 2013. His two loan spells with St Mirren, from his hometown club Newcastle, make him familiar to the Scottish game with him apparently keen to return and we could offer him a chance in the Premiership.

In his first season with Championship outfit Rotherham, he signed for them on a free a year ago, the midfielder was limited to just 13 appearances but only six of them came as a starter.

But he’s still highly regarded by Robbie Neilson who would like to, apparently, add him to our squad.

The 23-year-old does have a year left on his contract but an agreement could be reached to release him from this with it claimed that we’ve already held talks with his agent about a switch to Tynecastle, which if it came off would you be happy with it?
