Hearts Step Up Move For Porter

Hearts have reportedly stepped up their interest in Motherwell striker Chris Porter.

Csaba Laszlo publicly announced his desire to sign Porter just before last Wednesday’s re-arranged SPL match at Fir Park between the sides, a move that understandably angered ‘Well boss Mark McGhee, and various reports this morning are suggesting that Csaba could be set to table a bid for the player in the very near future.

As most of us agreed last week, this is definitely the sort of move that we’d like to see our management team making i.e. looking to sign a proven SPL player in a position that our team clearly needs strengthened, However there has to be a serious question mark against Hearts’ ability to sign a player who is bound to be in demand elsewhere, especially if it is the case that we have to sell before we can buy. That said, the only people suggesting the latter are a west-coast press who clearly wanted it to be us and not Rangers having to facilitate a ‘firesale’ of some sort this month, so perhaps Hearts will be able to make January a month of strengthening rather than offsetting some of their assets. Only time will tell there.

How good is Porter? Well, it’s very difficult to say when the only times you’ve seen him playing live have been a handful of games against a struggling Hearts, but certainly in those games he has impressed, and by all accounts has generally proven himself to be a decent striker at SPL level. It certainly wouldn’t be a move not to be welcomed……

The next Scott MacDonald perhaps? We can but hope.

It would be a positive move and I would like to see a front two if he were to be signed up. The press are also making a big thing about Hearts paying the final monies to Arbroath and at the end of the article I read they were implying that sales were likely by Hearts soon to cover this cost. So are we to assume Hearts must sell a million pound player to stump up a £450 interest charge, of course though they have been saying that since last June. I’m sick of hearing about Webster and finally he is gone but the positive news of the Porter approach has barely been touched on. Shame on the press.

He’s a striker who can score goals, so that’s a plus. Don’t know much about him other than that.
