Hearts will begin the new season with a home match against Motherwell on August 9.
It’s quite difficult looking ahead to the new season already for some reason – I suppose it’s probably due to the lack of any activity at Hearts in terms of the new manager and new signings, etc. It still seems like a LONG way away.
Goodness knows what the situation will be at Tynecastle by the time that the season’s opening day comes around – we can only hope that we will have a new manager in place who has brought in a few new fresh faces and ideas, but I must admit that the longer it goes with little or nothing happening, the lower my expectations get.
Ironically our first opponents will be managed by the man who was just a few weeks ago expected to be the new Tynecastle manager, Mark McGhee – it will therefore be interesting to see the sort of reception he gets in the dugout that day, along with how he fares against whoever is calling the shots for Hearts.
The season’s first Edinburgh derby takes place at Easter Road on October 18, with the New Year rematch being on January 3 at Tynecastle. In other words, yet another year without a true New Year’s Day derby match in Edinburgh – quite sad isn’t it?!
I was about to end this little article with ‘bring it on’, but that’s not really how I feel about the new season yet, so I won’t!

It will be a good test first up against one of the teams who will be battling for third place with you.
With us? That’s perhaps wishful thinking right now considering our managerial situation!
Nonsense, we’re going to win the SPL. Easy. Oh… wait…
Champs League in…..2 years now is it?
3rd place I dream of the days when we played games without incident and Daily Record ridicule.
