Weiss Offered Hearts Job…According To Weiss!

Artmedia Bratislava manager Vladimir Weiss is claiming that Hearts have offered him the manager’s job, and that he will make a decision today about whether or not to take it.

The signs have been there over the past few days that Weiss was the emerging favourite for the job, and the fact that he was quoted as saying the following would appear to now confirm this:

‘We talked and on Monday I will say whether I will sign the new contract or not.’

The Scotsman are suggesting that Weiss will now discuss his future with Artmedia, whom he steered to a league and cup double last season, before announcing his intentions.

Although this guy does appear to have some qualities, this is not the appointment that is going to really excite the Hearts support. Back in January they were promised a manager who would have considerable knowledge of the game in this country – I’m struggling to see how Weiss ticks this box from what I’ve seen of his history in the game. The fact that English is not his strongest language cannot be a positive thing either, especially given the fact that handling the media in this country is not the easiest thing in the world to negotiate at the best of times. It is rather interesting though, that Russian IS a strong point for him!

I don’t tend to go along with those who are now saying that Mark McGhee was never a realistic target for Hearts. As far as I can see he most definitely was, and he just genuinely decided against it at the last minute with the deal all but done. These things happen and it sadly wasn’t to be for Hearts, and the likes of Weiss and the Mr Thordarson evidently represented the club’s ‘Plan B’. Whether or not that means continued mediocrity for the club is something that we’ll no doubt find out in the months ahead…….

We’re doomed captain! We’re doomed! Only joking, I noticed your comment on the last report about this sir and indeed at least he is a manager with experience and the usual calibre of numpty we normally employ. I am still disappointed that the British experience plan contained only one option. In fact it seemed as though they weren’t interested in signing up a British manager once McGhee had turned it down. Still this could all be a rather horried dream and I’ll wake up one day… Of course I will be behind the team and the manager but I really do feel that if things start to go wrong again and dross from various Eastern European coutnries (Of course we have dross from Britain but we only ever sign dross from abroad not the good players) appear on our doorstep playing alongside Miko and crew then we are going to be stuck in this position forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever…

For a man who turned a small club with an annual budget of £1M into regular European competitors, including a shot in the Champions League, he clearly has something about him. Until he is announced with the cheap scarf trick however, I’m still not believing anything. Whatever happens though – I hope that whoever does come in gets the full backing & support of everyone at Hearts, including & especially the fans. This is a big season for us on so many levels.

Well, as at 2.30 pm, there appears to have been no announcement (one way or the other). If Weiss turns us down, that will send out another negative message – yet another manager doesn’t want to play “Romanov Roulette” with his career. Would Romanov then try for Thor, or play the loyalty card by appointing Zymantovich ? Hmmm.. don’t want to think about that one, actually. You’re absolutely sight SJ – this season is crucial for us. If we get the manager wrong (for whatever reason), Hearts are seriously damaged – maybe fatally damaged.

I agree SH and I am sure Zig-a-Zig-ah will be the new manager if Weiss turns us down. I still don’t believe, as Ewan Cameron would say on Real Radio, and even with Weiss (Although I will give my support to him and the team) I think we have settled for less than we should have and Vlad has made us all believe that we are getting a truly classy manager. I suppose only time will tell. I do feel Hearts have been fatally damaged and we need a miracle to get things going again.
