Romanov Match Fix Claim

Former Hearts Chairman George Foulkes has spoken about Vladimir Romanov’s suspicions that last season’s 1-1 draw with Celtic at Parkhead was somehow fixed!

Foulkes, who left the club in protest after then-manager George Burley was sacked the week after that match at Parkhead, said:

‘The genesis of the concern that Romanov had was after the 1-1 draw at Celtic Park in October.

‘Romanov was convinced that the result had somehow been contrived and was suspicious. But it was just so fantastic and unbelievable.

‘He was fuming about it because he believed the match had been fixed.’

The full facts over the reasons for Burley’s dismissal have still to come out in the public domain, but the fact that his sacking came less than a week after Romanov’s suspicions certainly adds food for thought. It would appear that the relationship between Romanov and Burley must have gotten to the stage where neither man could trust each other at all, because the notion that the Parkhead game was fixed is frankly ludicrous. Burley maybe did do something underhand behind the scenes that upset the owner, but to insinuate that he had an involvement in fixing this match is way over the top. However I can understand Romanov’s disgust that his far superior side only left with a draw that day! Hohoho!

BBC2 are screening a documentary tonight at 2100 BST called ‘Romanov: King Of Hearts’. Apparently Romanov was offered the chance to give his take on Foulkes’ comments but declined. However true to form, he did take up the chance to comment on pretty much everything else, including the appointment and dismissal of Graham Rix, so the programme should make for interesting viewing…………

Shame I’ll miss the programme tonight. Be sure to tell us how it was though MrH. Hearts are providing all the intresting stories in the S.P.L. just now (and for the last season for that matter.)

Er, if Hearts were “far superior” that day how come the players did a lap of honour at the end, celebrating like they had actually won something? I knew at that mment that they didn’t have the winning mentality required to win the league. Still, nice of Romanov to give us a giggle in that programme – apparently winning the league didn’t matter after all it was just getting into Europe that counted! And Hearts fans are special becuase they are “iintellectual”. Oh pleaase, my sides.

Weegie arrogance again on display .Im surprised a Weegie can spell intellectual. What Romanov should have said was sophiscated.
Maybe that was the interpreter getting it wrong.
Golden rule you fail to comprehend Nick-S never under estimate the enemy.

It must be said those Sellik men take the bait more than anyone don’t they? My “far superior” comment was quite obviously tongue-in-cheek…….wasn’t it?! It would be silly to think otherwise – they finished 20 points ahead of us! Anyway as for the programme, it was reasonably well done I thought. I liked the way that Romanov dealt with that Brazilian agent – these guys are bleeding the game dry and he’s quite right to the stance he has on that. And if he thinks there is bias in the game then why shouldn’t he be allowed to come out and say so? He’s only saying what everyone else sees!

wouldn’t be surprised if mad vlad’s fixed a few games in his time.
    The guy’s a paranoid megalomaniac.

t40fm…bet you checked out intellectual in the dictionary before you made that comment. anyway as for ‘weegies’ not being able to spell:: I’m surprised you’s East Coast twits can spell as half of you’s are junked up most a the time, “edited”. [Edited by ghopper]

Classic t40fm – Hearts fans are “sophiscated”!

  • MrH says:

scottm-1989 can you please calm down with the insults? We don’t mind a bit of harmless ribbing between rivals but that’s out of order. Thanks.

  • scottm_1989 says:

if ye can’t take it don’t hand it out

  • MrH says:

I didn’t hand anything out. Expressing an opinion is one thing but idiotic, mindless abuse is another.

  • scottm_1989 says:

well t40fm’s opinion was Glaswegians cannot spell which isn’t true and is a mindless comment. At least my comment had some truth in it.

  • MrH says:

You were doing so well there until your last sentence!

  • scottm_1989 says:

    why thank you kind Sir

  • Nick-S says:

He really doesn’t get it does he?

  • scottm_1989 says:

    who me?

  • MrH says:

Let’s put it down to numbness of the mind caused by incessant ramblings about England winning the world cup on tv! There is no escape it seems!
